Renae Hansen paced Alberta with 17. Mary-Frances Lapthorne added 16. Medorann Harris led Saskatchewan with 8. Lapthorne told the Regina Leader-post that “we got a little frazzled because the Saskatchewan girls play a fast game. After we started to be more disciplined, our offensive started happening. Our whole offensive is based on a running offence – we just started to run the ball and we got some points.” Saskatchewan coach Gary Frederickson said “we just couldn’t put the ball in the basket. Sometimes, it goes that way. Alberta is a very good team defensively. If you get behind, it’s really tough to catch up.” Harris said “our shots just weren’t on. A lot of it was a mental game. They were really into theirs and I think we psyched ourselves out.”

In the bronze medal match, British Columbia clipped Saskatchewan 71-58 as Rosie Albert scored 17. Jasmine Weseen paced Saskatchewan with 13. Janet Cook added 9. Saskatchewan (coached by Gary Frederickson) also included Kelly Flanagan.

In the Western final, Manitoba avenged a round-robin loss by defeating Alberta 58-53 as Heather Corby scored 17 and Marjorie Kelly 15. Cory Rawlusyk paced Alberta with 13. Mary-Frances Lapthorne added 5. Manitoba coach Keith Pruden told the Regina Leader-Post that “nobody likes to lose a game in a competition like this. But in a way, (the round-robin loss) helped our game because it was kind of like an experiment. We were able to learn their strengths. It wasn’t a question of avenging; it was a question of learning from our mistakes.” Corby said “Alberta played a good game but we were ready for the final. It was more to prove to ourselves that we had it in us. They had their runs and we had our runs but we stuck together as a team the whole time.” Kelly added that “it was good that we lost (Friday) because we didn’t come in overconfident. It was tough but we just hung in there. We had to stop penetration into the key because they like to drive.” Lapthorne said “we just got into foul trouble and they made all their foul shots. They cut off a lot of penetration and it turned into turnovers for us. That cost us a lot.”
