Saskatchewan led 33-31 at the half. Debbie Smith paced Saskatchewan with 14. Sharon Douglas added 8. Saskatchewan coach Heather Witzel told the Regina Leader-Post that “Sharon (Douglas) didn’t have her best game tonight. That’s for sure. She has a lot of pressure on her to be the big gun for us. Debbie Smith came on late in the game and got some shots. Sheila Brennan was absolutely outstanding.” …………………………………………………… Saskatchewan dispatched Manitoba 72-65 as Sharon Douglas scored 21.

        In the bronze medal match, Alberta clipped Manitoba 61-50 as Amanda Holloway scored 16 and Noreen Mitchell 15. Jane Edstrom paced Manitoba with 15.

        In the final, Saskatchewan dumped British Columbia 79-66 as Debbie Smith scored 17, Sheila Brennan 10 and Sharon Douglas 7. Saskatchewan led 48-37 at the half. Bev Bland led BC with 17. BC outrebounded Saskatchewan 30-21. Saskatchewan coach Heather Witzel told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “we were more aggressive. We didn’t want to let anyone down. We started to get five days ago and it was great when it started happening. I give all the credit to the girls and Al (manager Al Didur).” Lorraine Wright said “this is probably one of the biggest thrills I’ve had. It was such a team effort. But it was a long game and I’m glad it’s over. Celebrating is a lot less tiring.” BC coach Darlene Currie said “they just took it to us. They put more pressure on the ball. But we knew that would happen. Heather has a couple of good guards and a lot of balance.”
