In the West final, British Columbia defeated Alberta 83-82 in overtime. British Columbia coach Rich Goulet told the Salmon Arm Observor that “if they had won, I wouldn’t have felt cheated. … It feels great, the more the better. It’s always good to win but it’s nice because of the challenge of getting players to gel as a team.” BC took a 26-10 lead and led 39-33 at the half. Alberta rallied to take a 77-75 lead but Jamie Bennett hit two free throws for BC to force overtime. Alberta coach Mark Dibko said the rally was accomplished by switching point guard Brad Gallup and off-guard Tim Rollingson, as well as shifting to a zone every time BC point guard Steve Nash touched the ball. Dobko called the loss “devastating.”
