        In the other semi, Alberta nipped Quebec 64-62 as Angela Hlavka scored 22 and Karla Karch 18. Carol Assalian led Quebec with 18. JoAnne McKay added 14 and Lewis 12. “I’m just glad the buzzer went when it did,” said Alberta coach Faith Rostad. “We’ve had some tough, intensive games up to now and I think we were a bit tired.” Alberta led 33-28 at the half. Quebec knotted the score at 61 with 1:41 to play as JoAnn McKay caught fire. But Karla Karch hit a bucket and Shelaine Kozakavich added a free throw to ice the win for Alberta.

        In the fifth-place match, New Brunswick defeated Manitoba 89-86 in overtime. The score was tied at 78 after regulation and the tide turned when Jill Mathez fouled out for Manitoba. Susan McMaster led New Brunswick with 28. Allison Kent added 19. Jill Mathez led Manitoba with 19. Carol Ploen added 16 and Debbie Belinsky 14. Manitoba (coached by Jim Gosman, assistant Jeff Gosman) also included Kim Bertholet, Cheryl McCombe, Andrea Richmond, Lori Reid, Sara Conlin, Donna Yacheson, Debbie Belinsky, Cathy Holtman, Beth Cochran and Drew McCormick.

        In the bronze medal match, Quebec thrashed British Columbia 74-61.

        In the final, Ontario dumped Alberta 76-69 as Carol Hamilton scored 25 and Mary Ann Kowal 18. Debbie Patterson and Karla Karch each scored 16 to pace Alberta, which had led early 21-10.
