In the bronze medal match, Manitoba dispatched New Brunswick 82-73 as Carol Ploen scored 24, Beth Cochrane 20 and Cathy Holtman 10. Shelley Slater led New Brunswick with 15. Susan McMaster added 13 and Margaret Jones 11. New Brunswick also included Jane Williams, Lisa Briggs.
In the final, Ontario dusted British Columbia 66-52 as Linda Cunningham scored 12, Carol Hamilton 12, Tricia Hyland 10 and Angela Orton 10. Susie Neal led BC with 15. Laura Cabott added 12 and Lori Clarke 10. BC led 28-27 after the sluggish first half. Ontario coach Peter Campbell told the Regina Leader-Post that “I thought it might take six minutes (instead of 2:18) to score a point. Both teams were very nervous and made a few mistakes. Even Linda (Cunningham) made a few mistakes offensively.” Cunningham said “sometimes I get caught on a rotation of our offence. That’s why I ended up inside. But on defence, we had to get on their guards. That was the key.” BC coach Laura Watson said “we weren’t attacking offensively. I took Cabott off for a minute and we still couldn’t get anything going.” Campbell said “we just kept coming at them.”
