In the third round, the University of Victoria Vikettes eliminated Montreal’s Bourgeois College of Westmount 63-33 after leading 32-18 at the half. Inge Brightsen led the Vikettes with 20. Mary Coutts and Nan Elliott each added 9. Lucie Angers paced Montreal with 16.
In the final, Victoria nipped Hamilton 41-40, necessitating a second final as the Durhams had only lost once. Victoria was paced by Mary Coutts, who scored 16. Sylvia Campbell added 15, including four free throws in the dying minutes. Hamilton was led by Lorraine Beilak’s 12. Hamilton was up by 38-35 with two minutes to go.
In game two, Victoria took the title with a 48-46 win. Hamilton led most of the contest and were ahead 11-10 after one quarter; 20-18 at the half and 32-30 at the three-quarter mark. But Mary Coutts paced Victoria to the victory in the final frame and rebounded a Sylvia Campbell miss to hit the winning field goal. She finished with 29 points, including 25-16 from the line. Campbell added 9 points. Hamilton was led by Lorraine Beilak’s 12 points. Pat MacDonald added 9.
