In pool B play: Quebec thumped Manitoba 79-69. “We faced a lot of size with some athletic ability,” said Manitoba coach Larry Sawchuk. “I think that made it difficult for us. With six or seven minutes left my assistant coach pointed out to me that we had four Grade 12s on the floor. I said ‘Holy, were in trouble.’ That’s a fact of life because we’re not that good.”
In the 9th place playoff, Manitoba clipped Newfoundland and Labrador 71-58. Manitoba (coached by Larry Sawchuk) included Anderson, Chartier, Eric Christianson, Cullen, Emeruwa, Ewonchuk, Jeff Foreman, Fraser, Jordan, Lutzer, Mulvey, Jeremy Rattai, Schrofel and Rhett Turner. Newfoundland included Abel, Barrett, Downer, Elkins, Elliot, Kavanagh, Lake, Moore, Penney, Pitman, Redden, Smith, Taylor and White.
In the 7th-place playoff, Nova Scotia pounded Prince Edward Island 106-76. Nova Scotia included Bailey, Brockway, Cain, Diepenveen, Ikeijani, James, Macdonald, Andy Mackay, Mackay, Mantley, Will Njoku, Parker, Pick, Smith, Kevin Veinot, White and Wright Jr. PEI included Cameron, Collins, Dexter, Gannon, Henthorn, Johnston, Kielly, Lawlor, Lawlor, Lilly, Mackinnon, Matheson, McEntee, Phillips and Thibodeau.
In the 5th-place playoff, Alberta defeated Quebec 82-79. Alberta (coached by Kelly Goheen, assisted by Ken Larson) included Travis Stel, Bruce Crowle, Tony McDougall, Robin McNally, Kurt Pederson, Jeff Smith, Jamie Mulholland, Scott Karaim, Jules McNeil, Ian Minnifee, Seth Adler, Brian Kannekens, Jason Stanier, Mattern and Mcdougall. Quebec included Bialski, Cambria, Clyke, Deschamps, Faucher, Fleury, Girgis, Lacroix, Mcdougall, Mendolia, Pleau-Gauthier, Thomas and Walcott.
In the bronze medal match, New Brunswick defeated Ontario 92-84. Ontario (coached by Mike Katz) included Anderson, Brooks, Eastland, Elwood, King, lee, Llewellyn, Morgan, Munro, Sandel, Van Koughnett, Vander Pol, Vassell
In the final, British Columbia dumped Saskatchewan 72-59 after leading by 15 at the half. The home town crowd were intimidating, said B.C.’s Ron Putzi. “They’re a hell of a crowd. The people here are so pro-sports we had to get them out of it as soon as we could.” Putzi led B.C. with 31.
