        In the opening round of the national tourney, held in Saint John, Windsor AKO defeated the Calgary Mount Royal Junior College Cougars 64-63 as Ken McGuire scored the winning bucket with eight seconds to go. Terry Chappell led AKO with 17. Ken McQuire added 12, Dan Hogan 11, Haugh 9, Carter 8, Anderson 3, Fletcher 2 and Zerbin 2, while Holden and Mills were scoreless. Peter Jeffrey led the Cougars with 19. Newcombe added 12, Stoochkoff 11, Powell 10, Koros 10, Hays 5, Melhorn 5 and Davidson 2, while Rule was scoreless. Calgary led 60-48 with six minutes to go but coach Lino Truant switched Windsor to a full court press, under which Calgary wilted. Windsor took a 62-61 lead but John Powell put Calgary back ahead with eight seconds to go. Dan Hogan fed Ken McQuire for the winning layup to win the game.

        The UBC Jayvees dumped the Moncton St. Pat’s Celtics 82-51 as Sam Vandermeulen scored 20 and Rick Inrig 18. The Jayvees led 38-27 at the half.

        The Montreal University Settlement Orchids dumped the Halifax Warriors 82-55.

        In the second round, Sam Vandermuelen scored 22, Derek Sankey 13, Billy Ruby 8, Keith Margetson 8, Marshall 6, Richmond 5, Donaldson 5, MacKay 4 and Hogg 3 as the UBC Jayvees thrashed Windsor AKO 79-40. Ken McGuire led Windsor with 13. Hogan added 8, Dennis Zerbin 4, Carter 4, Ernie Holden 3, Chappell 3, Anderson 2 and Fletcher 2, while Mills and Graham were scoreless. AKO shot 7-13 from the line. Vancouver scored 31 points from the line.

        The Moncton St. Pat’s Celtics eliminated the Halifax Warriors 69-54.

        In round three, Windsor AKO nipped the St. John Celtics 65-62 after opening the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 43-42 lead. St. John had opened the game on a 16-2 run and was ahead 40-30 at the half. Windsor led 63-57 with 3:50 to go but St. FX grad Tom McGrattan rallied Saint John to a 63-63 tie. St. John missed a free throw. Windsor called time out with 38 second to play and killed the clock until scoring the final field goal on a Dan Hogan bucket at the buzzer. Dennis Zerbin led AKO with 14. Ernie Holden added 11, Ken McQuire 11, Hogan 10, Chappell 6, Anderson 4, Carter 4 and Haugh 1. Tom McGrattan led the Celtics with 20. Mike Sullivan added 15, Brian Forsythe 11, Binneu 8, Steer 4 and McMullen 2, while Anderson, Estey and Murphy were scoreless.

        The Calgary Mount Royal Junior College Cougars eliminated the Moncton St. Pat’s Celtics 73-46.

        In round 4, UBC Jayvees defeated the Montreal Orchids 83-79 after taking an 11-0 lead and leading 39-27 at the half. Rick Inrig paced the Jayvees with 23. Larry Donaldson added 19, Bill Ruby 10 and Dave Marshall 10. Ray Mischook scored 26 for the Orchids. Chris Vidicek added 17 and Allan Palmer 5.

        Windsor AKO throttled the Calgary Mount Royal Cougars 85-75 as Ken McQuire scored 23, Ernie Holden 17, Terry Chappell 14, Hogan 8, Carter 8, Zerbin 7, Anderson 4, Fletcher 2 and Haugh 2, while Mills and Graham were scoreless. Phil Stoochnoff led the Cougars (coached by Jack Kenyon, manager Ric Swihart) with 17. Bill Newcombe added 17, John Powell 15, Pete Jeffery 13, Dwayne Koros 10, Wayne Mehlhorn 9, Dean Davidson 2 and Bill Hays 2, while John Rule was scoreless.

In the semi, Ray Mischook scored 27 as the Montreal University Settlement Orchids pasted Windsor AKO 81-75 as Ray Mischook scored 27, Hudson Alleyne 15, Palmer 10, Nar Zanolin 9, Leverman 8, Bruner 6, Morach 2, Chris Vidicek 2 and Lloyd Willis 2, while Stirling, Charlie Weaver and Corbett were scoreless. Dan Hogan scored 13 to lead Windsor (coached by Lino Truant). Dennis Zerbin added 11, Carter 8, Ken McQuire 7, Ernie Holden 6, Dave Anderson 6, Chappell 6, Fletcher 4 and Haugh 2, while Mills and Graham were scoreless.

In the final, Sam Vandermeulen scored 27, Rick Inrig 19 and guard Billy Ruby 14 to lead UBC to an 82-75 win. UBC led 41-34 at half, went on a 13-0 run in the second quarter to take a 17-point lead. Although Derek Sankey was ill for the final, coach Norman Watts said “but I had 10 starters and no worries.” Ray Mischook led Montreal with 28. Nar Zanolin added 16 and Chris Vidicek 13. With the victory, the UBC Jaycees finished (31-4) on the season.
