The Saints had finished fourth in the Vancouver city league. Bob Brickey scored 13 to lead the Buffaloes (coached by Martin Terry). In the Eastern finals, Hamilton Quigley’s swept the Montreal University Settlement Orchids 65-53; 81-50 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In game one, Hamilton clipped Montreal 65-53 as Jim Dynia scored 18 and Tom Bondarenko 13. The Quigley’s hit 24-76 (.320) from the floor and 17-27 from the line, while garnering 58 boards. Jim Rouzier led the Orchids with 14. Gordie Wells added 13 and Nar Zanolin 10. The Orchids hit 18-50 (.360) from the floor nad 15-27 from the line, while garnering 30 boards. Hamitlon led 35-27 at the half but Montreal rallied to knot the score at 50 before the Quigley’s ripped off a late run to take command. Montreal coach Archie Slifka told Canadian Press “the travelling and strange court didn’t help.” …………………………………………………… In game two, Hamilton took a 36-17 lead at the half and coasted to an 81-50 win. Brian Middlemass paced Quigley’s with 24. Bob Tatti added 17, Jim Dynia 16, Tom Bondarenko 10, Jerry Plasky 5, Gregg Jackson 4, Bartoloota 3 and Nasby 2, while Walsh was scoreless. Norm Sennechal led Montreal with 15. Jim Rouzier added 11, Gord Wells 10, Morgan 4, Brian McKendrick 4, Atkinson 3, Nar Zanolin 3, Wozniak 2 and Kuncevicius 2, while Hock was scoreless. Orchids coach Archie Slifka told Canadian Press that “we didn’t get the rebounds and we didn’t pump in enough offensively. The Hamilton team played as a unit.”

In the national final, Vancouver CYO Saints d’d Hamilton Quigley’s 64-50; 58-63; 75-56; 61-59 (3g-1). Hamilton coach Wes Hicks unable to attend finals because of previous business commitments. Hicks built the team and was considered a brilliant tactician. He recruited Paul Traynor, coach of the 59 and 62 finalists, to replace him.

In game one, before a standing room only crowd at Vancouver College gym, the CYO saints took the opener 64-50 with Neil Williscroft scoring 32, including 20 in the second half. The Saints dominated the boards. Hamilton coach Paul Traynor said “Williscroft killed us. We’ll just have to find some way to stopping him or this series will end in three games. A total of 41 fouls called, include 24 against Hamilton. The Quigley’s were up early in the first half 25-24 with Jim Dynia scoring 11. He finished with 20. But CYO came back to take a 43-34 lead after 10 minutes in the second half with Hamilton going stone cold. CYO was flying. Hamilton’s Brian Middlemass fouled out with four minutes to go. When Jerry Plasky fouled out with 35 seconds to go, Hamilton was reduced to four players. Plasky had finished the game with 5 steals. Gregg Jackson led Hamilton scorers with 10 points. Aside from Williscroft, CYO scoring including Ian Donald 9, Robert Kettlewell 2, Brian Adams 7, Neil Warboys 6, Al Wawryk 5, Charlie Lipp 3, while Dumont, Hipwell and Eivemark were scoreless. Dynia led Hamilton with 20. Jackson added 10, Middlemass 8, Tatti 8 and Plasky 4, while Bondarenko, Nasby, Bartoletta and Walsh were scoreless.

        In game two, Quigley’s held Williscroft to 7 points, all in the 2nd half, while winning 63-58. The B.C. star had picked up three fouls in the contest’s first eight minutes and spent most of the first half on the bench. A total of 46 fouls called, 23 against each team. CYO led 15-9 at the quarter. The game was tied at 29 at the half. Jim Dynia was ejected for pushing CYO’s Charlie Lipp at 6:25 to go in second half. Bartolotta was on the bench with an ankle injury, so Hamilton essentially had 7 players. When both Plasky and Tom Bondarenko fouled out, and Dynia ejected, the Quigley’s once against finished the game with 4 players on the floor. CYO was up 52-49 midway through the second half and up 58-57 with three minutes to go. But Brian Middlemass and Bob Tatti each hit layups and Bob Tatti added a free throw with 30 seconds to go to seal victory. Jerry Plasky finished with 17 points and 5 steals, Brian Middlemass 16; and Bob Tatti 15. The Quigley’s shot 17-29 from the line. CYO was led by Robert Kettlewell’s 15 and Brian Adams’ 14. The Saints shot 15-33 from the line.

        In game three, with Bartolotta again injured, the Quigley’s played with 7 players but four fouled out and the Hamilton squad was forced to finish the game with three players on the floor and lost 75-56. CYO was up 34-31 at the half and 55-45 at the three-quarter mark, with Brian Adams having a spectacular third quarter, scoring 12 of his team’s 21 points. He finished with 17. The Saints were paced by Neil Williscroft 27, Ian Donald 10, Al Wawryk 2, Charlie Lipp, Bob Dumont, Paul Hippwell 3 and Robert Kettlewell 9. The Quigley’s Jim Dynia scored 19. Brian Middlemass and Bob Tatti each added 10 before fouling out.

        In game four, Vancouver CYO took the series with a 61-59 win. CYO opened the deciding contest with an 8-0 run but then Brian Middlemass himself countered with 9 straight points for the Quigley’s. CYO led 14-13 after one quarter and 34-31 at the half. In third quarter, Middlemass scored 10 as Hamilton outscored Vancouver 21-9. Hamilton was up 52-42 with 10 minutes to go but then a full-court Saints press rattled the Quigley’s and turned the game around. CYO rallied to within 58-57 on two field goals and two free throws by Robert Kettlewell and then took the lead on two field goals by Brian Adams and one by Neil Williscroft. CYO was up 61-59 and Hamilton had the ball and was passing it around the key looking for a shot. Middlemass cut into the lane with five seconds to go but Kettlewell stole the ball to seal the victory. Only 35 fouls called in contest with only Jim Dynia fouling out near the end. Neil Williscroft finished with 20, Brian Adams 11, Robert Kettlewell 12 and Ian Donald 10. Brian Middlemass led the Quigley’s with 21. Bob Tatti added 17 and Jim Dynia 11.
