        In Manitoba finals, U. of Manitoba Hawks d’d U. of Manitoba Cougars 54-64; x-x; 62-57; 51-53; 47-35 (3g-2). The Cougars (coached by John MacDermid) included Jim Pincock, Richard Whitehouse, Myron Kuzych, Ed Sorba, Brian McKenzie, Frank McKay, Herb Falk, Ron Nash, Bill Brock, Bruce Gair, Dick Willis and Paul Vyrostko.

        In the Alberta finals, the Edmonton Huskies, an all-star team from the Edmonton Husky League comprised primarily of University of Alberta Bearcats, defeating the Mount Royal Cougars 56-41; 54-44. …………………………………………………… In game one, the Huskies prevailed 56-41 as Bearcats star Gaalen Erickson scored 26, John Simonsen 13, Wayne Welsh 12, Rich Bowering 11, Lyndon Hutchinson 8 and Wayne Welsh 7. Fred Berry led Mount Royal with 11. Stephen Sparks added 7 and Paul Humphreys 6. …………………………………………………… In game two, the Bearscats completed the series sweep with a 54-44 win as Gaalen Erickson scored 18, Wayne Welsh 12, Rich Bowering 11, Lyndon Hutchinson 8, John Simonsen 7 (alternate box reported. The one for game two seems incoherent). The Huskies (coached by University of Alberta Bearcats coach Alex Carre) also included Dwight Jensen, Rich Bowering, Brent McMullen, Jerry Kozub, Bod Lindsay, John Mann and Al Shaw. Pete (Fred?) Berry led Mount Royal with 11. Steve Sparks added 7, Ken Hranchuk 5 and Larry Robinson 5.

        In the Maritimes, the St. Stephen Mohawks, from a town of 3500, fielded a junior team for the first time in 11 years. They’d played only 10 games all years and were coached by a Roman Catholic priest who says he “did more guiding than actual instructing.” He gave up his coaching duties when Lent rolled around and talked lawyer and former player Fred Nicholson into assuming the coaching reigns. The team needed $400 to cover the entry fee for the national tourney and canvassed various merchants in town before signing a $500 note with a local bank. They then hired a limousine and a driver from a local cab company and headed for Hamilton. Driving through Maine, the vehicle’s torsion bar broke. In New York, they blew a tire and later a generator wire went. They arrived in Hamilton 22 hours later.

        In the Quebec finals, the Montreal University Settlement Orchids defeated the Jonquiere Juniors 76-31; 2-0 (game conceded).

        In British Columbia, the University of British Columbia’s two junior teams, who finished 1-2 in regular season play, did not enter the provincial and Dominion playoffs because of financial cost.

        In round one of the national tournament, Brian Adams scored 19 and Charlie Lipp 14 to lead the Vancouver CYO Saints past Toronto YMHA 79-57. YMHA was led by Nolan Kane’s 22.

Windsor AKO dumped the University of Manitoba Hawks 51-41 as Joe Clark scored 16, Bob Beneteau 7, Fred Hussey 7, Mike Gloster 7, Hugh McLellan 5, Dave James 4, Doug Cowan 4 and Bob Kostyniuk 2, while Dave Brooks, Mike Weeks, Paul Dale and Curtis were scoreless. Bob Bilan led the Hawks with 11. Cooper added 10, Barry Marko 5, Zelmer 5, Murray Dickson 4, Botting 4 and Armstrong 2, while McClure, Argus and Stott were scoreless.

        The Hamilton Buccaneers pulled out a late 56-48 victory over the Edmonton Huskies with Bob Tatti and Jim Russell each scoring 12. Hamilton had led 27-17 early before Edmonton rallied to a 41-37 lead with 11 minutes to play. But Tatti and Russell got hot, while Al Irwin began to dominate the boards as the Buccaneers rallied back. The Huskies were led by Gaalen Simonsen’s 13 and hit a scant 18-61 from the field.

        The Montreal University Settlement Orchids thrashed the St. Stephen Mohawks 70-45 with Bob Harrison scoring 18 and Tom Pound 10. St. Stephen was led by Phil Johnson’s 22 points. Montreal took a 36-19 lead at the half and coasted to the win.

        In round two, the Vancouver CYO Saints defeated the Hamilton Buccaneers 70-65 after opening the second half with an 11-0 run. The Buccaneers led 35-29 at the half. The Saints Mike Eivenmark and Ian Donald fouled out. Brian Adams scored 18, Charlie Lipp 18 and B.C. Lions football linebacker Greg Findlay 16. Hamilton was led by Jim Daly’s 15.

        The Montreal Orchids defeated heavy favorite Windsor AKO 63-52 on the ballhandling of Vic Chortyk, who scored 16. Tom Pound added 12, Pat McConnell 9, Dobrofsky 8, Harrison 6, Morgan 6, Dallas 4 and Barsher 2, while Conroy was scoreless. AKO led by 30-17 early in the half but promptly relinquished a 14-0 run and never again threatened. Joe Clark led the Fratmen with 20. Fred Hussey added 12, Mike Gloster 5, Mike Weeks 4, Dave James 4, Bob Beneteau 4, Doug Cowan 2 and Bob Kostyniuk 1, while Hugh McLellan and Dave Brooks were scoreless.

Toronto YMHA eliminated the Edmonton Huskies 53-49 with Nolan Kane scoring 21, Gerry Sternberg 14 and Hersh Cohen 10. The Huskies were led by Al Shaw’s 14 points. John Simonsen added 11.

        The U of Manitoba Hawks eliminated the St. Stephen Mohawks 85-50 with Barry Marko scoring 23 and Murray Dickson 17. The Mohawks’ were paced by Carl Speedy’s 17.

        In the round 3 battle of the undefeateds, the Vancouver CYO Saints defeated the Montreal U. Settlement Orchids 64-53 led by the defence of Greg Findley, who finished with 16 and 35 rebounds, ten more than the entire Montreal team. Vancouver out-rebounded Montreal 68-25. Brian Adams added 15, Ian Donald 12, Lipp 9, Eivemark 8 and Hipwell 6, while Deslauriers and Hurley were scoreless. Tom Pound paced the Orchids with 12. Pat McConnell added 11, Chortyk 7, Dobrofsky 6, Harrison 6, Dallas 4, Brasher 4 and Morgan 3, while Conroy was scoreless. Vancouver led by only 27-25 at the half on a layup by Ian Donald when Montreal’s Lou Brasher hit the floor after injuring his shoulder. Vancouver shot 21-68 from the floor, while Montreal was 22-69.

        The Hamilton Buccaneers eliminated the U. of Manitoba Hawks 66-51 after Walsh scored 16, Mike Sturrock 11, Tatti 9, Dynia 8, Daly 8, Irwin 7, Katz 2, Morrison 2, Coombe 2 and Schaus 1. The Hawks were led by Barry Marko’s 12. Murray Dickson added 10, Cooper 8, Bilan 6, Botting 6, Angus 3, Stott 3, Zelner 2 and Armstrong 1.

        Windsor AKO knocked out Toronto YMHA 55-51 as Joe Clark scored 17, Mike Gloster 16, Bob Beneteau 14, Doug Cowan 6 and Hugh McLellan 2, while Curtin, Dale, Dave James, Bob Kostyniuk and Mike Weeks were scoreless. Nolan Kane led Toronto with 23. Tom Sherman added 10, Gerry Sternberg 10, Cohen 4, Maki 2 and Wright 2, while Jackson, Shuman and Warren were scoreless.

        In round four, the Hamilton Buccaneers eliminated Windsor AKO 63-52 as Jim Dynia scored 15, Al Irwin 13, wlong with 18 boards, Bob Tatti 8, along with 15 boards, Russel 8, Daly 7, Ken Walsh 6, Sturrock 4 and Morrison 2, while Coombe and Katz were scoreless. Hamilton hit 21-68 from the floor. Bob Kostyniuk led Windsor with 14. Joe Clark added 12, Mike Gloster 5, Bob Beneteau 4, Doug Cowan 4, Dave James 4, Mike Weeks 2 and Hugh McLellan 1, while Brooks and Dale were scoreless. Windsor hit 17-46 from the floor.

        In round five, the Montreal Orchids led for most of the game and lost a 10-point lead in the final minute but prevailed 68-67 over the Hamilton Buccaneers. They were up by only one with a minute to go but Hamilton held the ball for a final shot and its desperation heave missed. Frank Dobrofsky led the Orchids with 19. Bob Morgan added 12, Chortyk 11, Harrison 10, Pound 7, McConnell 7 and Conroy 2, while Dallas and Barsher were scoreless. Bob Tatti paced Hamilton with 13. Jim Dynia added 13, Jim Daley 13, Irwin 10, Sturrock 10, Russel 4, Walsh 2 and Coombe 2, while Katz and Schaus were scoreless.

        In the final, the Vancouver CYO Saints defeated the Montreal U. Settlement Orchids 68-59. Vancouver took a 26-point lead after 10 minutes, led by the driving layups of Brian Adams, who finished with 22. Greg Findley controlled the boards, scored 11. Charlie Lipp added 10, Paul Hipwell 9, Mike Eveimark 9, Donald 5, Adams 2 and Hurley 2, while Deslauriers was scoreless. Montreal twice rallied to within seven but was unable to close the gap any further as Vancouver’s pressure defence became more aggressive. The Orchids were led by Frank Dobrofsky’s 10 and Tom Pound’s 10. Vic Chortyk added 8, Conroy 7, Pat McConnell 6, Bob Harrison 6, Dallas 6, Bob Morgan 4 and Brasher 2. Coach Les Mulhern told Canadian Press that “I was a little scared in that second half when we lost that big lead. I know what that Montreal team can do.” The Saints finished last in B.C. Inter City League but won 10 straight games in playoffs and four straight at Hamilton tourney to win the national title.
