In game one, Warren Reynolds ran amuck for Toronto, scoring 26 and dominating the paint as YMHA prevailed 81-57. The southpaw centre was all but unstoppable as YMHA kept up a blistering paced which clearly tired Victoria. The Vikings led 6-3 early but soon collapsed and Toronto build a 40-25 lead at the half. Tom English, Bob Tomlinson and Ken Brousseau tried to rally Victoria but the Vikings shooting was streaky and Reynolds again took command. Arvid Buntins added 13 for Toronto, Fred Lewis 11, Art Green 0, Marv Cohen 5, Ross Moch 4, Doug Gaidy 8, Harvey Olanow 4, Phil Waters 2 and Howie Bobkin 8. Bob Tomlinson paced Victoria with 16. Tom English added 12, Ken McCulloch 5, Waldo Skillings 5, Ed Kowalyk 5, Doug Flynn 0, Lance Rossington 0, Art Chiko 9, Terry Lore 0 and Ken Brousseau 4. Victoria coach Bill Garner told Canadian Press it was the worst game his troops had ever played. “I don’t believe the Toronto club is 24 points better than my team. I expect the kids to prove it when they take to the floor for the second game tonight. We couldn’t hit from outside and we missed chances inside. In fact, our play was off color all night.”

In game two, Toronto forward Phil Waters was out with an infected eye, while guard Art Green had injured his knee. But the Whites still breezed to a 78-66 win. They led 44-29 at the half and only the sniping of 6-3 centre Bob Tomlinson kept Victoria vaguely within reach. Warren Reynolds led Toronto with 21, Fred Lewis 16, Arvyd Buntins 16, Doug Gaidy 10, Moen 7, Olanow 4, Bobkin 2 and Cohen 2, while Green was scoreless. Vikes coach Bill Garner tried a zone and ended up outscoring Toronto 37-34 in the second half. Tomlinson led Victoria with 23. Tom English added 16, Ken McCulloch 11, Art Chiko 11, Kowalyk 4 and Skillings 1, while Brousseau, Flynn, Rossington and Lore were scoreless. Toronto hit 18-33 from the line, while Victoria was 22-38.

Game three was a torrid, right affair until the second half when Toronto blitzed the Vikings with a decisive 22-0 run and prevailed 85-60. The Whites had led 41-38 at the half and Tom English cut the margin to one with a driving layup. The teams traded the lead until, with 10 minutes to play, Doug Gaidy, Howie Bobkin and Marv Cohen hit buckets to ignite the run. Doug Gaidy finished with 25 points. Howie Bobkin added 20, Marv Cohen 16, Warren Reynolds 9, Fred Lewis 2, Art Green 4, Ross Moch 8, Harvey Olanow 0 and Arvyd Buntins 5. Bob Tomlinson added 18, Ken McCulloch 8, Waldo Skillings 3, Ed Kowalyk 6, Ken Brousseau 0, Doug Flynn 0, Lance Rossington 0, Art Chiko 2 and Terry Lore 0. In nine playoffs games, the YMHA Whites outscored their opposition 830-570, while capitalizing heavily on their experience. A rule change in offseason of 1956 had boosted the eligibility limit to 20 from 19 years of age, allowing Toronto to keep four vets for another year, including scoring ace Warren Reynolds, rebounding wizard ‘Goose’ Gaidy, guard Russ Moch and speedy forward Phil Waters. The Whites finished 34-5 on the season. Sherman called it his best all-around team. “I could turn to any member of the team and get a top-notch performance. It was that balance that won it for us.” After the win, Sherman announced plans to take his top seven players and compete at the senior level in 1957-58.
