But star player Phil Harrison was discovered to be over-age, so the Jacks were ordered to play a sudden-death game with the 23rd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment. They won. They then defeated Woodstock in a sudden death game to advance against the Newcastle Rockets in a home and home series for the provincial title. A crowd of 2,000 applauded the Western’s display of sportsmanship as Winnipeg took the series with an 80-54 victory. Herb Olaffson led Winnipeg with 15.
