        CABA ruled that an East-West series wasn’t apropos as the East was too late in declaring a winner and had shown little interest in the series. They awarded the national crown to Winnipeg Light Infantry. But Toronto vowed to underwrite the costs of a Winnipeg trip to the east and CABA decided to hold the series. Winnipeg Light Infantry coach Jimmy Bullock says his troops would accept the challenge, because they’d have an inclination to be dubbed “cheese champions,” as they were being referred to by the Toronto media.

        In the first Canadian final, host Toronto Central YMHA swept Winnipeg Light Infantry 43-41; 65-47 (2g-0).

        In game one, Ron Ridding knocked down a pair from the line with 45 seconds to play to give Toronto Central YMHA a 43-41 win. Until that point, Toronto was 3-16 from the line, while Winnipeg was 15-21. The fast-paced affair saw Winnipeg dominate the boards but shoot poorly. Winnipeg took a 4-0 lead on a pair of buckets by Wally Parobec but Toronto inched ahead 12-11 at the quarter on last minute buckets by Ron Ridding and Tommy Orr. Toronto led 26-21 at the half and 35-31 after three quarters but free throws by Dick Barbour and Mike Deski knotted the score at 38 with three minutes to play. Harold Mauthe added a pair from the line as Winnipeg moved ahead by two. But Bill Huycke streaked for a layup to tie it. Mauthe responded with another free throw. Horace Wilson tied it with a free throw before Ridding hit the winning pair from the line. Central then got possession and froze the ball for the remaining 45 seconds, declining free throws on all fouls. Horace Wilson paced Toronto with 14. Ron Ridding added 11, Bill Huycke 4, Ray Thomas 6, Tom Orr 8 and Ed Maynerick 6. Wally Parobec led Winnipeg with 15.         In game two, Toronto led 30-20 at the half, 45-28 after three quarters and won 65-47. Central shot the ball much better than in game one, particularly at the line, where they were 23-36 in a foul-plagued affair. Ed Maynerick paced Toronto with 15 points.
