In the 5-8th playoff, British Columbia edged Saskatchewan 54-50. Saskatchewan started strong but broke down after starting guard Ron Pepper broke his wrist midway through the first half. Steve Harbrik led British Columbia with 11. Joe Carpenter added 10.

In the other 5-8th playoff, Alberta nipped New Brunswick 73-72. The score was knotted at 37 at the half. John McGrattan paced New Brunswick with 21.

In the 11th-place playoff, Yukon defeated the Northwest Territories 77-71 in overtime as John Konrad scored 21. Yukon (coached by Buzz Hudson) also included Tom Martin, Ron McIntosh, Garry Kennedy, Erik Manrodt, Duncan Sinclair, Mike Strong, Bill Dunlop, Ken Kennedy and Bruce Fraser. Al Mahagak led the Territories with 24.

In the 9th-place playoff, Newfoundland clipped Prince Edward Island 93-79. Newfoundland (coached by Edward Brown) included Gary Summers, Burke, Murphy, Baker, Churchill, Scaperotta, Tobin, Kavanaugh, Tom Prim, Buckle, Dawe. PEI included Ray Gallant.

In the 7th-place playoff, New Brunswick clubbed Saskatchewan 69-55 after leading 35-25 at the half. Colin Craig paced New Brunswick with 16. Terry Doran added 14 and John McGrattan 12. New Brunswick also included Brian Bawn, Michael Brien, Roger Brown, Michael Budreski, Richard Harten, Michael Horne, Jeffrey MacLeod, Donald Price, Richard Slipp and Bob Ward. John Broughton paced Saskatchewan with 18. Russ Hart added 12. Saskatchewan coach Bob Mirwald told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “both teams were dead tired. They just aren’t used to this many games. This time, it was just a matter of who grabbed the lead at the right time. They would be the winners.” Saskatchewan hit 21-74 (.270) from the floor. In the 5th-place playoff, British Columbia edged Alberta 60-57. British Columbia included Doug Thompson, Steve Harbrik, Joe Carpenter. Alberta (coached by Clyde Ogilvie) included Peter Ireland, Bob Herdman, Jim Lathrop, Robert Bailly, Jaroslav Diakowicz, Mike Horner, Donald Kreye, William Lathrop, Warren Meyer, Keith Recsky, James Watson and Keith Bell.

In the bronze medal match, Manitoba crushed Nova Scotia 77-53. Nova Scotia included Joey Wells, Lang, Richard, Swetman, John Driscoll, Cuvelier, Harrington, Mahoney, Doug Sparks, Harris.

In the final, Quebec crushed Ontario 87-66. Quebec’s superior height and speed proved the difference. Quebec’s Peter Ryan, Pierre Dion and Brad Upshaw dominated the boards. Peter Ryan paced Quebec with 24. Brad Upshaw added 15, Champoux 9, Briggs 8, Pierre Dion 7, Courcicus 8, Follette 6 and Tauben 3. Quebec broke to an early 20-4 lead and romped. Ontario didn’t score a field goal for the first seven minutes. Quebec led 47-22 at the half. John Ohler led Windsor AKO with 18. Bruce Norris added 12, Mike Chalut 9, Mike Stanko 8, John Smith 7, Frank Vitella 6, Pat Goggins 2, Robert Smith 2 and Dave Cogliata 2. Ontario coach Doug Cowan told the Windsor Star that “I guess they were more up for this ball game than we were. We had to outhustle them and we didn’t. They broke it open so fast that it was all over after about 10 minutes.”
