        In their opener, Canada pounded Mexico 87-56. Mexico led 19-16 after one quarter. Canada led 37-31 at the half and 63-43 after three quarters. “We had a great start, but got a little bit complacent and rushed offensively. Mexico competed hard, they took us away from our offence in the first half,” Canadian coach Carly Clarke said. “In the second half we executed much better. We played more physical. The goal is to medal and win. We hope to get better every single game and put ourselves in a position to do that. Valdivia has been great. People are very welcoming. We’ve been exposed to great culture, great food.         Canada improved to (2-0) in pool play by pounding Chile 88-39. “It was a good win,” said Canadian coach Carly Clarke. “The building was full of energy. We tried to feed off that and we did successfully. We carried on that energy throughout the game and got our victory. We’ve sealed a spot in the semi-finals and it’s great to have met that goal and to qualify for the World Championships. Now it’s time to turn our focus to try to win the tournament.” Canada ripped off a 23-0 run to take a 26-3 lead in the first quarter before Chile closed out the frame with a 6-0 run. Canada added and 11-2 run early in the second quarter and built a 48-22 lead at the half. Canada led 71-30 after three quarters. They never quit and we kept composure when they made a run in the 4th quarter,” said Canadian coach Carly Clarke. Canada led 17-2, 30-18 and 48-31 at the quarters.         In the semis, Canada dispatched Brazil 58-52 after ripping off a 19-0 run that bridged the third and fourth quarter and capped a rally from a 14-point deficit. “I’m very proud of our 40-minute effort from our girls tonight,” said Canadian coach Carly Clarke. “They stayed composed and kept battling when Brazil got ahead.” Brazil led 12-10 after one quarter and used to 9-3 run to build a 30-20 lead before a Summer Masikewich jumper with 18 seconds remaining trimmed to margin to eight at the half. Canada fell behind 47-33, in the dying moments of the third period before a Sarah Donovan trey ended the quarter. Canada exploded for 16 unanswered to start the fourth quarters. Izabele Leite stemmed the bleeding with a trey but Canada iced it at the line.
