Canada’s record was evened at (1-1) after dropping a 72-56 decision to the United States. Canada was within two after ten minutes of play but the USA run away in the second quarter, outscoring the Canadians 24-5 in the frame to take a 43-22 lead into the lockers. The Canadians could not dig themselves out of the deficit. “We had a great second half and played very well, we regrouped and met all of our goals for the half,” said Canadian head coach Rich Chambers. Natalie Achonwa said “we had a rough second quarter that set us behind in the score, but we made sure we stayed together as a team to accomplish our individual and team goals. Even though we didn’t come up with a win this time, we’ll work to get them back at the [FIBA U19 World Championships] next summer.” Shekinna Stricklen paced the United States with 13 on 5-9 from the floor, 1-1 from the arc and 8 rebounds. In their third
game, Canada defeated host Argentina 72-53 to run their record to (2-1). Despite trailing 18-14 at the end of the first quarter, Canada roared
back in the second to finish the half up 36-28. Coming out of the break,
Argentina managed to whittle the lead back down to one, but an 8-0 run by the
Canadians served to keep the host team at bay. Kayla Alexander paced Canada
with 18 on 8-10 from the floor, 2-5 from the line and 9 boards. Taryn
Wicijowski notched 14 on 5-6 from the floor, 4-7 from the line and 7 boards.

Canada improved to (3-1) after whipping
Puerto Rico 78-65. Canada won the first quarter 22-16 thanks to its dominance
both in the paint and on the perimeter. But in the second quarter, Puerto Rico
reacted with an 11-0 run in the final 5:23 to go up 38-33 at halftime. Puerto
Rico boosted its lead to seven early in the third quarter but the Canadians
went on a 9-0 run to take a 44-42 lead and ended the quarter up 53-49. Canada
never relinquished the lead in the final quarter. Taryn Wicijowski paced Canada
with 18 on 6-8 from the floor, 6-7 from the line and 9 boards. Kayla Alexander

Canada captured
second place and closed out its schedule with a (4-1) record by pounding Venezuela
88-68. Venezuela started strongly, going up 20-18 after the first quarter
behind the hot shooting of Roselis Silvas. The lead went back and forth during
the second quarter, with Canada going into halftime with a 39-37 lead after a
three-pointer by Stephanie MacDonald with 1:03 left. The Canadians broke the
game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Venezuelans 28-10 to take a 67-47
lead and dominate the rest of the game. Jennifer Vaughan paced Canada with 17
on 7-9 from the floor, 3-4 from the line and 3 boards. Elyse Jobin added 15 on
4-4 from the floor, 1-3 from the arc, 4-4 from the line, 3 assists and 2 steals.
