        In pool B round robin play, Bev Smith scores 21, Janet Fowler 14, Misty Thomas 13 and Andrea Blackwell 11 as Canada pounded Mexico 94-57

        Andrea Blackwell scored 11, Bev Smith 10 and Anna Pendergast 10 as Canada thumped Colombia 83-50.

Andrea Blackwell and Bev Smith each scored 27 as Canada rallies late to beat Cuba 98-97. Blackwell hit a three-point play with 27 ticks on the clock to break a 95-95 tie. She hit 12-14 from the field.

        Canada advances to semis with (3-0) record, winning its pool

        In the semis, 5-8 forward Hortencia Marcari scored 34, four above her tournament average, as Brazil nipped Canada 79-78. Bev Smith paced Canada with 27 points.

        In the 3-6th semis, Canada dumped Mexico 72-48 as Bev Smith scored 24.

        The bronze medal match features 12 ties and 7 lead changes before Canada prevailed 78-73. Cuba took its largest lead at eight points in the first half and led 40-37 going into the lockers. Canada took the lead with three minutes to go. Bev Smith scored 23. Misty Thomas added 16 and Janet Fowler 14. Coach Wayne Hussey attributed the win to Canada having outrebounded Cuba.
