In the final, the Whitehorse Porter Creek Rams clubbed the Whitehorse F.H. Collins Warriors 91-72, largely on the perimeter shooting of tournament MVP Matt Ireland and the post play of Dean Whiteford. Whiteford dominated the boards and scored 28. Ireland added 22, including 5 treys and Nick Rodger 16. The Rams led 42-38 at the half. “We played well in the transition (from defensive to offensive) games,” Rams’ head coach Paul Butra told the Whitehorse Star. “We went strong to the hoop all afternoon and I thought we were mentally prepared for the game. … Their pressure defense forced us into some bad play-making where we felt we had to pass the ball laterally instead of using our talent at the guard position and beating their player one-on-one up the floor. That caused turnovers and changed the momentum more than we would have liked.” Anthony Petrusis paced the Warriors with 28, including 4 treys. Isaac Holloway added 15 and Jake Cabbot 13. “(Petrusis) tried to break down their pressure by shooting the long ball and it worked well for us in the first half,” said Warriors’ coach Logan Wedge. “But when the shots stopped dropping, we were hurt by the absence of a dominant post-player. We didn’t have much of an inside game and Ireland really lit it up for them. … The shots just didn’t drop for us in the second. We ran into a couple of bad breaks and (Porter Creek) was able to run up the score on us a bit after we had to go to our bench in the latter stages of the game.”
