The 4th-seeded Humboldt Hawks rolled the Assiniboia Rockets 59-29 as Angela Baran scored 21. Baran said the Hawks were playing for coach Kevin Grieman, who died in February. “We had to come together as a team. … He’s with us, and we had to do it for him, so we had to push the intensity. … The last things he said to me was ‘stop whining and make the next play’, and I really will take that with me now the rest of my basketball career, because it’s true, I got to get on to the next play when I make a mistake and put the energy into the team.” Coach Kerri Archibald said Grieman’s “pre-game chats before big games, he would say ‘work hard and hope the basketball gods shine down on you’. In the bronze medal match, the Indian Head Broncos dumped the Humboldt Mohawks 69-60 after leading 2-37, 41-24 and 51-38 at the quarters. Lisa Popoff led the Mohawks with 25.
