A month earlier, Gagne had suffered an ankle sprain. “I wasn’t supposed to come back,” Gagne told the Regina Leader-Post. “This wasn’t going to be an option for me. I spent hours icing my foot. I spent the first two weeks on crutches. My goal was to get off crutches and stop my foot from looking like a balloon. “I have an exercise bike in our locker-room that helped me keep my cardio up. That was all I could do at first. It has been a struggle. It challenged me to find a new role on the team, because I’m used to leading on the court. I looked at it as an exciting opportunity to show my leadership abilities.” Reapers coach Brett Blair said “I give a lot of credit to Lake Lenore. They came out and showed us how to play. They showed the intensity we should have. They really took it to us in the first quarter.” Charity Mbugua added 16 for the Reapers, Janielle Edquilane 10 and Danielle Apakoh 10. Chloe Gerwing led Lake Lenore with 28. “It was exciting,’ said Gagne, who is one of only two Grade 12s on her team, along with Shayla Williams. “Shayla and I were talking before the game and we said, ‘It’s the last home game we’ll ever play.’ We were kind of down in the dumps, but we wanted to make it count. It’s all about helping your team.’ Especially after the help her teammates had provided while she was sidelined. It’s incredible to think that a month ago, I was sitting in a physiotherapist’s office, thinking it was the last basketball game I had ever played. To work hard enough to get back and to have my team be such a huge support to me, it’s indescribable.” The Lancers also included Danielle Baumi, Lisa Prodahl, Payton Voz.
