In the semis, held in Prince Albert, the top-seeded Middle Lake Three Lakes Avengers defeated the 5th-seeded Davidson Raiders 81-69 after leading 40-31 at the half. Carter Burkhart paced the Avengers with 25. Mark Rettger led the Raiders with 37.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Lake Lenore Lancers dispatched the 3rd-seeded Rocanville Rara Avis 71-61. The Rara Avis led 33-29 at the half. Dalton Kiedrowski paced the Lancers with 33. John Abud led the Rara Avis with 21.
In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Rocanville Rara Avis whipped the 5th-seeded Davidson Raiders 88-59 after leading 54-19 at the half. Austin Norbert led the Rara Avis with 24. Josh Loveto paced the Raiders with 17. The Raiders (coached by Kim Rettger, assisted by Luke Edwards) also included Mark Rettger, Clay Murfitt, Tobi Arowalo, Parker Smith, Reegan Taylor, Riley Berry, Gabe Charette, Nathan Chomyshen, Andrew Moore, Keegan Shaw.
In the final, the top-seeded Middle Lake Three Lakes Avengers topped the 2nd-seeded Lake Lenore Lancers 75-53 to capture their second consecutive crown and complete a boys-girls title double at the A-Level. The Avengers led 40-21 at the half. Masson Altrogge led the Avengers with 23. “Obviously it means a lot. All the practicing and shooting at lunch and all that pays off in the end,” Avengers coach Craig Martinka told the Humboldt Journal. Martinka, two years removed from playing for the Avengers, added that “I always wanted to stick with basketball, I’ve been doing it since I was young and then after I was done playing, I just thought it would be nice to join the coaching staff and carry on with coaching.” Coaching his brother Troy was unique, he added. “Obviously he’s in grade 12 so he went out on a high note.” Winning a boys-girls title double was equally rewarding, he said. “We’re a small community so everyone gets to celebrate it all together. Everyone hears about it.” Jamie Davis paced the Lancers with 17.
