Kristen Skjonsby led the Elecs with 9. The Elecs also included Tess Lindquist, Taylor Boan.
In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers clubbed the 8th-seeded Regina Luther Lions 89-56 after leading 45-29 at the half. Despite injuring her ankle, post Amy Williams scored 44. “We had to step it up another notch. Luther pushed our team to a level we hadn’t been to,” said Peacock coach Renee Verge. “I’ve always said the character of a team shows through adversity and we had a little adversity.” The Toilers led 55-46 when Williams rolled her ankle. “We looked up at the score clock and were only up by (nine). I called the time out and put it back in the girl’s hands and they really showed a lot of character in the end of the third and into the fourth,” said Verge. Williams came back on the floor after the time out and she scored and was fouled on the next trip down the floor and then blocked Luther’s Jenn Tran fast-break lay-up. “I’m not sure what happened. I think I just tripped and banged my ankle,” said Williams. “It was a nice advantage for us because they didn’t have much height. Me and Caitlyn (Kitts) are both pretty tall and we were able to own the boards. The Toilers went on a 15-1 run to close out the third quarter and scored the first five points on the fourth quarter to take a 75-47 lead. The 2nd-seeded Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartans whipped the 7th-seeded Swift Current Ardens 66-43 after leading 34-25 at the half. The Spartans took control in the second half when they went to a full court press. “I think our press got us eight points in a minute-and-a-half,” said Carpenter coach Carla Waterman. “That was huge for us, probably the biggest turning point. You can sink a ship pretty fast if you can convert turnovers into baskets.” Madison Oystrick paced the Spartans with 21. Kaitlyn Darlington-Keubler led the Ardens with 7. The Ardens (coached by Andrew Herrick, assisted by Megan Jackson) also included Jocelyn Martin, Tianna Kissick, Rebecca Frank, Emilie Erlandson, Cheyenne Kendall, Jade Addai, Cassandra Furey, Shae-Lynn Boatov, Vivian Pepin, Shay Smith, Shania Jensen and Katelin Peters.

In the semis, the top-seeded Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers nipped the 4th-seeded North Battleford Vikings 68-64 in overtime. “It was a very, very good game. We weren’t expecting it to be an easy game and it wasn’t,” said Peacock coach Renee Verge. “We had a really good battle. I had people in the stands tell me it was the best girls basketball game they had seen in years.” The Toilers led by five with a little over three minutes left before the Vikings tied the game. Caitlyn Kitts thought she had scored the winning basket for the Toilers with eight seconds left, but she was called on a travel. “Both teams had girls that were in foul trouble and I think that changes your game style a little bit,” said Verge. “Full credit to our Grade 12s. They really dug in when we needed them to. They stayed on the floor with four fouls. We hit some crucial free throws and that was huge. We have lots of drills (in practice) where kids are shooting free throws when they’re pretty spent, but wow did that pay off for us in that game.” According to the North Battleford Gazette, “the Vikings trailed 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, but during the intermission the score was reportedly changed to 20-13, after removing two points from the Vikings and giving them to Moose Jaw. The scorekeeper’s error wasn’t fixed and the Vikings were forced to trudge on.” The Toilers built a 21-point lead but the Vikings rallied to within 13 at the half and then forced overtime. “It was a pretty crazy, intense game. The crowd was into it. It was pretty fun,” said Vikings coach Bryan Cottini. Amy Williams paced the Toilers with 22. Libby Epoch added 14. Shiania Magnusson led the Vikings with 24. Shallen McNabb added 14.

The Hounds rallied within 62-58 with two minutes to play but the Spartans maintained their poise. Point guard Brenna Seymour called in a white knuckler. “I was just thinking we couldn’t lose bad turnovers and we had to play our game.” Spartans coach Carla Waterman called it “a little hard of the heart. We had a good start. But you usually don’t win a game in the first quarter. We knew they’d be scrappy and, in our face, and they were. The last part of the game was all about managing the ball and my kids just showed a lot of composure. … The game had a good start – we led something like 12-2 after the first quarter. But, that’s not enough to win an entire game. They (Notre Dame) also played very well and did their best to fight back. It was a physical game, but we expected that. The girls were able to show a lot of composure and it paid off.” Hounds coach Wayne Morrison said youth was a factor. ‘We have a lot of skilled players but just that maturity, that grade 12 edge you get sometimes, we just didn’t have it.” Waterman said “my starting five, we have a lot of experience and a lot of speed and that’s what we try and utilize in every game that we go to.” Hounds coach Wayne Morrison said “our kids worked hard all year and this was our goal – to get to the gold-medal game and win it. Now we’re not going to get there. It’s pretty disappointing.”
In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Wilcox Athol Murray College of Notre Dame Hounds stomped the 4th-seeded North Battleford Vikings 63-37. “After the disappointment from the semifinals against Moose Jaw it was pretty tough to motivate them,” said Vikings coach Bryan Cottini. It was awesome. The girls improved every weekend and this time they really brought their ‘A’ game.” Oystrick said “it was one of those awesome games where both teams were very skilled. My team and I played up to our full potential – we were at our very best at Hoopla.” Madison Oystrick paced the Spartans with 35. Linzee Brooks added 14. Megan Crone led the Toilers with 29.
