In the opening round: …………………………………………………… The Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders dusted the Yorkton Regional Raiders 63-45 after leading 27-16 at the half. Dalyce Emmerson led the Crusaders with 24. Raelen Nagy paced the Raiders with 15. Emmerson said “I had a lot of help from my teammates, I couldn’t do it without them. We’ve been shooting a lot in the mornings, so I think, that’s helping. This weekend we’re really just trying to focus on what we’ve been practicing and executing the plays that we’ve practiced all year,” said Emmerson, bound for the University of Saskatchewan. Crusaders coach Jenn Ferguson said if Emmerson has “been a force on the team. … It’s that time of year when everyone’s rundown. The nice thing about Dalyce is you never know by her performance if she’s feeling sick or not so great, she always performs.” …………………………………………………… The Regina Archbishop M.C. O’Neill Titans defeated the Melfort Comets 73-62. Melfort took a 50-49 lead after three quarters but the Titans took command with three minutes to play as Shanna Streisel hit a pair of treys. Mackenzie Srochenski-Fyfe led the Titans with 28. Danielle Whrkamp paced the Comets with 20. Marissa Glanville added 12 and Sarah Schuba 10. “We were down at the half by 15 and came back with a strong third quarter to start the last quarter with a one-point lead 50-49,” said Comets coach Penny Anderson. The game was tied many times and the score went back and forth until the three-minute mark when Streisel hit the treys. …………………………………………………… The Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers stomped the Melville Cobras 86-51 after leading 40-11 at the half on the strength of their full-court pressure. Megan Crone led the Toilers with 22. Madi Rice added 19. …………………………………………………… The Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartanettes clipped the Balgonie Greenall Griffins 66-56. …………………………………………………… The North Battleford Vikings crushed the Martensville Royals 74-17. …………………………………………………… The Prince Albert St. Mary Marauders whipped the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones 61-35. …………………………………………………… The Humboldt Mohawks clobbered the Warman Wolverines 84-38 after leading 21-18, 44-26 and 64-36 at the quarters. Christie Clearwater led the Elecs with 17. Jade Shirley added 10.

In the quarterfinals, the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders smacked the Regina Archbishop M.C. O’Neill Titans 60-39 after leading 34-21 at the half. Dalyce Emmerson paced the Crusaders with 21 despite rolling her right ankle midway through the second quarter with the Crusaders leading 32-10. The Crusaders led 34-21 at the half on a Kristin Czychowski bucket at the buzzer. S. Fritcke paced the Titans with 23.

The Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers clipped the Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartanettes 71-49 after leading 39-23 at the half. Megan Crone paced the Toilers with 16. Jessica Williams added 13 and Karli Bell 10.

The North Battleford Vikings dumped the Prince Albert St. Mary Marauders 55-34. The Vikings led 11-8 after one quarter and pulled away in the second frame.

In the last quarterfinal, the Humboldt Mohawks whipped the Moose Jaw Vanier Spirits 85-65. The Mohawk’s full-court pressure proved effective throughout the match. Paige Crozon led the Mohawks with 29. Lindsey Larson added 23 and Kaytlin Hantke 14. Katie Cotter paced the Spirits with 19. Molly Cox added 15.

In the semis, the 4th-seeded Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers axed the top-seeded Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders 67-52 as Jessica Williams scored 18. Dalyce Emmerson paced the Crusaders with 15. Toilers coach Rene Verge called it a “complete game. The girls have been playing really well, we knew if we had put a complete game together, we had a shot and that’s what we saw. We put a complete game together and the outcome took care of itself.” The Toilers led 37-27 at the half but the lead slowly started to fade away as the Crusaders held the Toilers pointless for the first five minutes of the third quarter to rally within 37-36. Verge called a timeout, where the Toilers regrouped and said to themselves that they really want to win. “When I called that timeout, and I don’t call timeouts very often, they said ‘we want this, we’ll get this done,’” said Verge. “And they did.” Tye Buettner drew a foul right after the timeout, getting the Toilers’ first point from the line with five minutes left. Buettner got a layup in the Toilers following possession and then Karli Bell made it rain from the three-point line, hitting two back-to-back three-point shots. She had 12 points in the game, all from the three-point line. ”You’ll never see that again, a high school team shoot that percentage,” said Crusaders’ coach Jenn Ferguson. “I’m not sure what it was, but it must have been in the high sixties, from the outside.”

In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Humboldt Mohawks stomped the 2nd-seeded North Battleford Vikings 64-49 as Lindsey Larson scored 22. Kendra Humenny paced the Vikings with 28.

In the bronze medal match, the North Battleford Vikings edged the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders 71-65 after leading 19-13, 30-27 and 55-45 at the quarters. Kendra Humenny paced the Vikings with 24. Tianna Balfour added 16 and Avery Saunders 13. The Vikings never trailed, taking a three-point advantage into halftime, which grew to 10 points after three quarters. Racquel Marshall said “this year we found that all four teams that were in Hoopla could’ve taken home the gold medal. If we played the tournament next weekend it could have been different; it’s just how the cards fell this weekend. They just got a head start on us. We’ve always been a slow starting kind of team, I don’t know why.” The Crusaders managed to close the gap to two points with 80 seconds to play but the Vikings scored an uncontested layup to seal the win. “We just couldn’t come back,” said Marshall. “After the game we were upset, not because we lost, but because it was over. We had a really close team and it was just sad for it to all be done.” The 17-year-old post added it was even sadder that Chenele Fisher “who never fouls out” was on the sidelines after collecting her fifth foul, while Emmerson played through the pain of her injured ankle all weekend. “This has been one of my favourite seasons for basketball, we’ve all become so close,” said Marshall. Racquel Marshall paced the Crusaders with 22. Kaila Gavel and Dalyce Emmerson each added 13. The Crusaders (coached by Jenn Ferguson) also included Katelyn Mitchell, Chenele Fisher, Nicki Harris, Chana Harris, Hailey Wooden, Morgan Braaten, Kristen Czychowski, Sarah Cooper and Breanna Fisher.

In the final, the Humboldt Hawks mauled the Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers 76-64 as Paige Crozon scored 29. Lindsey Larson added 19. Megan Crone led the Toilers with 14. Karli Bell and Racquel Lys each added 9. “We got a silver medal. Hey, that’s great,” said Peacock coach Renee Verge. “We put our (second-place) plaque in the middle (of our team huddle) and said: ‘It’s not the destination, it’s the journey that’s important.’ And wow, did we have a great journey this year. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.” The Toilers lead 19-18 in the second quarter, but an 8-0 Mohawks run put them ahead for good. “We played a great team. Humboldt shot very, very well,” said Verge. “We reacted the best we could. Our shooting wasn’t quite as sharp as it was (Friday). But we showed what our team is all about. We fought really hard right to the end. This team is all about character and fighting right to the end and that’s what we did.”
