They led 49-32 after three quarters. “The first half, we had to get all of our nervousness out,” said 6-1 post Cassano. “Our coach just told us to get all of that out. It was like it was 0-0 because we were only up one. We just had to play our half because we’re a second-half team.” Gullickson said “we just felt it was our turn to represent who we are and how we can play. We just had to bear down and find a place to do it. I’m very proud. It’s only my second season with them, but I have very strong relationships with all of them. It means a lot to me, as a coach, they’re willing to give what they can. I give what I can to them. That they’re willing to lay it out on the line one last time (is special). … I have all the confidence in the world in them when they want to play. They need to show up and play. They can’t expect people to back down for them.” Katie Perras added that “we’ll give it our all, we’ll lay everything on the line and whatever happens, happens.”

Kayla Cassano led Johnson with 17, along with 6 blocks. The Ardens trailed for almost the entire game, but never by more than five points. With 4:40 left in the game Hailey McRae scored a lay-up that would give the Ardens a 39-37 lead that they would never relinquish. Kimbi Wiebe scored on the Ardens next possession to stretch the lead to four points with 3:57 remaining. With 2:49 remaining McRae would score the eventual game-winning basket on a put-back to give the Ardens a 43-39 lead. The teams then traded free throws before Danielle LaRochelle hit two clutch free throws with 15 seconds remaining to make it a 46-42 final. “I was pretty much almost puking,” LaRochelle told the Regina Leader-Post. “I had some butterflies, but we were already ahead two points so we just needed a cushion.” Ardens coach Rod Siemens “our offensive game wasn’t together all weekend, but on the defensive end, we really came through. The girls just dug down really deep and it kind of paid off.” The Wildcats had trouble getting their offensive game on track because of the present of Arden post Brianna Wilms in the pain. “We came out flying and all of a sudden, we were just flat,” said guard Jayda Wakelam. “The whole game we were trying to play catch-up and in the end, it didn’t work out for us. We just didn’t play today. … Silver is just as good. It’s not gold, but it’s better than being like some of the teams that aren’t even here. It’s pretty good that we got this far.” Wildcats coach Mandy Gullickson said “we beat ourselves. Ninety-nine per cent of the time we finish, but we just didn’t do it right. They were more concerned about this being their last game and trying to do too much in not enough time, instead of just playing the game.” Siemens was thrilled the team kept their composure during a pair of high intensity games. “We knew that our defense was the key. As long as our defense was solid, we were hoping to have a shot. The girls just would not quit. We had confidence but we also knew that the challenge was pretty steep this game. The girls just gave an incredible effort. It was a true team effort.” The Ardens only allowed a single point in the final 5:15 of the game. “This really has been a team effort all year. Every game it seems to be someone different stepping up and doing the job. This game there were a number of girls that did a tremendous job and it was another tremendous team effort,” said Siemens. McRae said “I felt like I played really strong. I have had a strong weekend, but it takes a whole team, and we played really well as a team. We got the ball to who needed it.” McRae also noted that the season was true team effort. “Nobody else could do that. We are the only team that goes 11 strong and can do everything with 11 players.” Lindsay Siemens was elated. “It’s great, I still can’t believe we won, it is still sinking in!” The Ardens finished (22-8) on the season.
