Michelle Mullie called it “a huge accomplishment for us. We were so excited. Everyone was crying after the game and stuff. It was a big deal for us, especially for a lot of the Grade 12s because it’s our last year playing basketball and it’s our last chance. It was amazing.” Johnson’s roster included six Grade 12s — Mullie, Chelsea Cassano (who had a game-high 19 points), Chantel Kerth, Marley Parks, Teagan Ell and Diana Wilson. “It’s the end of high school basketball for us,” Mullie said. “There are a lot of Grade 12s and we were crying because we’re leaving and crying because we’re excited. There were a lot of emotions.” Kummerfield noted that “Chelsea and Mullie, in particular, have been playing together for three years and they have been absolutely fantastic, with Chelsea on the front side and Mullie on the back side. They’re irreplaceable. You want the best thing for them when they leave. That was their last game. What better can you do than win a gold medal in your last game? It was great — just great.”
