Feehan Trojans 83-61 as Krista Fowler scored 25, Farah Smith 19, Melissa McLaughlin 11, Claire Dore 9, Tonya Thalgott 6, Kyla Royan 5, Corrie Shabbits 4, Sarah Ulmer 2 and Kelly Stevenson 2. Fowler told the Regina Leader-Post that the Tartans transition game proved the difference. “We’ve done that all year. When you can, you run. That’s our theory. There were a couple of them huffing and puffing and we took advantage of that. We used a lot of our bench. They were a great help. That made the difference. We didn’t break down mentally when they came on.” The Tartans led 40-36 at the half. Beckie Lieffers led the Trojans with 16. Trisha Beck added 15, Jennifer Farion 14, Donna-Marie Frasetto 11 and Lynette Laing 5. The Trojans (coached by Heather Witzel and Sheila Chad) also included Angela Kostiuk, Barb Krawec, Jenelyn Lozinsky, Tressa Sawchuk, Kellie Waldner, Kim Hoyle. Beck said “the more they ran, the harder we had to work and the more tired we got. If we would have had a bigger team. … We have really good players but no one player can play the whole game and play to the top of their potential in the last two minutes of the game. I did play the whole game and I feel it now. It’s not that our players couldn’t do it but it isn’t humanly possibly to play 40 minutes of full-out basketball.”

Peacock Toilers dispatched the Saskatoon Aden Bowman Bears 54-46 as Medorann Harris scored 30, Andrea Gottselig 10, Joanne Stirton 5, Stacey Arnold 3, Colleen McLarty 2, Angie Lawrence 2 and Keri Palmer 2. Farah Smith led the Tartans with 16. Krista Fowler added 16, Claire Dore 13, Melissa McLaughlin 12, Kelly Stevenson 6, Kyla Royan 2 and Tiffany Weagle 2. The Eagles erased a 12-point deficit with five minutes to play after coach Len Williams shifted his troops to a full-court press. They took a 68-67 lead on an and-one by Sydney Parsons, who told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix “we had it in our minds that we would be in the final. From there, we didn’t stop. I looked up and saw 10 points and four minutes and thought: are we ever going to do this? You have to put that aside and look at what your goals is, and not worry about what you’re feeling at the time. Odgers said “it was a mental game at the end. It was who would stay composed and who would make the smart decision.”
In the other semi, the Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers clipped the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans 62-49 as Medorann Harris scored 23, Andrea Gottselig 14, Angie Lawrence 14, Joanne Stirton 9 and Stacey Arnold 2. The Toilers broke to a 10-0 lead and romped. Gottselig told the Regina Leader-post “it feels good to not be from a big city and be able to beat them. People always think small cities aren’t as strong.” Harris said “maybe that’s why we do so well for a small centre – we have nothing to do so we just play basketball. … Every lunch hour, in our spares. We have no lives. But it’s worth it.” Spartans coach Larry Longmore said “Moose Jaw played a heck of a game. I don’t think they did anything to hurt themselves. They controlled the offence and played super defence. That’s probably the most we’ve ever been shut down.”

Keri Palmer hit two free throws for the Toilers to ice it with 6.8 seconds to play. Palmer told the Regina Leader-post “I was just thinking I’ve got to get these in for the team. We’ve worked so hard all year.” It was her only points of the game, having been fouled while nabbing a rebound. Harris said “that’s our bench. … She pulled through for us. She’s the hero of the game. We needed those two. That’s ironic that a bench person would be the hero of the game but I think she is.” Eagle Crystal Jordens bounced a trey off the rim as time expired. “Jordens said “it didn’t go our way and things like that happen. We had a really good run and a great team. It’s just hard.” Weyburn led 34-33 at the half and opened the second half with a 6-0 run but the Toilers clawed back to a 56-49 lead after three quarters. Lawrence said “there was a lot of tension throughout the last five minutes. … It’s really a nice way to finish off. We worked so hard all year and we finally made our goal.” Harris said “I didn’t want to play another five minutes. The last five minutes was enough for me. It was nerve-racking.”
