People didn’t think we could do it, so we just came out and played hard and left it all on the court.” Forbes and Colby Boyes also played with the Devils as Grade 10s when they won their inaugural provincial crown in 2009 at the 3A level. “Our team is mostly Grade 12s and we wanted to go out with a bang,” Forbes said. “They were prepared for us and we didn’t start the game sharp,” said Marauders coach Dale Regel. “We had difficulties shooting. We couldn’t handle an outside shot and they had a big boy that was blocking our shots.” Devil post Matt Forbes blocked 20 shots and intimidated the Marauders. “It was difficult getting by him,” Regel said. Boyes said Forbe’s presence proved the difference. “He changes the game. The way he plays defence and alters shots, there’s nothing you can really do against him.” Regel added that “it’s arguably one of the best teams we ever had,” with a 40-4 overall. “We had a successful season and nobody can take that away. It was a season to remember.”
