In the final, the Regina Johnson Wildcats dumped the defending champ Fort Qu’Appelle Bert Fox Lakers 61-50 as Brad Ross scored 23. Craig Kinvig paced Fort Qu’Appelle with 15. “It’s nice for the boys,” Wildcats coach Jeff Perry told the Regina Leader-Post. “When I started coaching these boys when they were in grade 10, I said: ‘you have the talent to be in the provincial final in your grade 12 year. I can see the potential but you have to be a team. You have to work hard to do it’. I guess they proved me right. It was a great ride for me. They did all the work and I just had to manage the talent.” The Wildcats held the Lakers to four points in the fourth quarter. “We stepped it up when we had to,” Perry told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix.
