The Tartans turned the ball over three times in the final 43 seconds but the Raiders were unable to capitalize. Eger told the Regina Leader-post that “we went through a lot of adversity there. Iwas glad we put it all together at the end. We had the lead at the half (44-36) and had control of the game at that point. Then we had some turnovers. We played like we were in grade nine or something and let them back in it. We weren’t in control. We surely gave them every chance to take it away from us. There’s always little bit of luck but I believe we’re the better team.” Darren Balaberda paced the Raiders with 23. Trent Szabo added 13, Geoff Propp 13, Jamie Sheasby 9, Kevin Cumming 7, Brian Bolingbroke 3, Kirk Lafontaine 2, Neil Nichols 2 and Ryan Bohn 1, while Jake Ivan and Eric McDowell were scoreless. Rainders coach Jim Nichols said “that’s a tough game for any team to lose. When we put up that three (in the final minute), I thought it was in. Then we set up something to go for a two-point shot to tie the game and go for overtime. We got the shot. I thought he got hit but it wasn’t called. It came down to a two-point game but earlier in the game, we gave them a lot of easy baskets. We turned the ball over on their press and it seemed like we had to work hard for our points.”

So we rotated a few people on him. The key was Hardy. The rest of the people are good athletes, but he’s sort of the straw that stirs the drink. We had to take the straw away.” Crusaders coach Barry Rawlyk said “we just didn’t play very well defensively. We gave up too many points. Basketball is a game of tempo and we really did not dictate the tempo. They dicated to us for a good portion of the game.”

We tried to keep it out of our heads because we didn’t need any more pressure. … (But) it’s nice being part of the 95 Spartans that beat the Regina jinx.” Spartans coach Kevin Koster said “before we came here, that’s one thing we talked about – the jinx and the 12-year drought. And this was our number one goal all season. They didn’t mention any other tournaments we’d won. They just wanted to win provincials.” The Spartans opened with a 12-0 run and led 28-31 at the half. They broke the game open with a 19-0 run in the second half. Tartans coach Scott Hippe said “we just fell apart when they got on a run and we didn’t get back in the game.” Orellana told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “we like to start fast because it pumps us up.” Koster said “I told them that if they didn’t come out and give 100% for the whole game, anything could happen.” Schepers said “we tried to treat it like any other game and just come out and play as hard as we could.” Tartans coach Glenn Szabo said “we had a lot of unforced errors and it magnified from there.”
