In the provincial semis, the Yorkton Regional Raiders dusted the Saskatoon Nutana Blues 86-63 as Troy Slogocki scored 27, Brady Hayden 18 and Jason Sherwin 16. Jonah Popoff led the Blues with 22. Brent Franson added 14. The Raiders led 58-31 at the half. Raiders coach Jim Nichols told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “we ran the offence well, we shot well. But we had some turnovers. … It was good enough to win.” Blues coach Dean Faris said “they’ve got a nice group of shooters. … And the shots weren’t going in for us. We stopped rebounding and the offence wasn’t as structured.”
In the other semi, the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders clipped the Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers 86-78 as Shawn Belsher scored 26, Craig Eaket 12, James Camplin 12 and Russell Dawson 12. Paul Girard led the Toilers with 30. Ted Woo added 17. The score was knotted at 77 with 2:42 to play. But Belsher drove for a bucket. Craig Eaket soon added a bucket and the Crusaders pulled away.
In the bronze medal match, the Saskatoon Nutana Blues edged the Moose Jaw A.E. Peacock Toilers 68-65 as Brent Franson scored 37 and Michael McLean 16. Paul Girard led the Toilers with 28. Rob Chartrand added 13. The Toilers also included Ted Woo.
In the final, the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders nipped the Yorkton Regional Raiders 77-75 as Shawn Belsher nailed a jumper with seconds to play. Belsher paced the Crusaders with 29. Russell Dawson added 17 and Craig Eaket 15. Danny Manning led the Raiders with 22. Jason Sherwin added 16 and Troy Slogocki 15. Crusaders coach Rob Clarke told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that Belsher “was definitely the man who was going to win it for us.” The Crusaders led 48-38 at the half.
