Tartans coach Bill Petersmayer told the Regina Leader-Post that “we didn’t play too well and the boys were a little uptight in the first half. Our shooting was really bad (23%) and were kind of thinking about tomorrow’s game.” Luther led 37-36 with 5 minutes to play but fouled themselves out of a win. Campbell scored 20 in the final 5 minutes, including 10 free throws. Bob Wiens led the Lions with 12. Marty Raddatz added 10 and Drew Ward 10. Marauders coach Bernie Ripplinger told the Regina Leader-Post that “they gave us trouble all year. We beat them by two points once and by one another time but in our last game of the season, they beat us by 29 points.” Miller led 11-0 early. Ripplinger said “they outhustled us on the loose balls and I think that’s what made the score so close.” Rod Nuemann paced the Maroons with 20. Tim Barker added 13. The Maroons also included Stacey Delvo, Chris Hall, Warren Bobbec, Brent Stauber. …………………………………………………… In the semis, the Campbell Tartans clipped the Thom Trojans 54-43 as Murray Douglas scored 13 and Dan Taylor 11. Roger Fisher paced the Marauders with 20. Stan Oleksinski added 12. Spartans coach Lorne Aston told the Regina Leader-Post that “we played a zone defence except on (John) Salopek, one of their top scorers. Him we played man-to-man and it paid off. Yeah, see both Salopek and their big man (Mike) Fogarty didn’t get a point.” Marauders coach Bernie Ripplinger said “what actually killed us was the beginning when they went up 10 or 12 points on us right away. We never recovered those points.”  The Marauders (coached by Bernie Ripplinger) also included John Salopek, Mike Fogarty, Mike Jestadt, Stacy Delwo, Salter, Dansereau, Drew Ruschinsky, Hauck. …………………………………………………… In the finals, the Campbell Tartans dumped the Sheldon-Williams Spartans 62-48 as Murray Douglas scored 16, Dan Taylor 16 and Dave Werry 10. Tartans coach Bill Petersmayer told the Regina Leader-Post that “the boys were a great frame of mind. I just told them to keep hustling and I used the psychology that the pressure was on Sheldon because they’d finished first. I think that kept them loose.” The Tartans led 33-18 at the half and 47-33 after three quarters. Spartans coach Lorne Aston said “we started (Dave) Traynor (who’d twisted his ankle in the semis) but he couldn’t last. He and Paul Ferguson worked all year to break a man-to-man defence but with Traynor out, it didn’t seem to work. It also kind of hurt us having two all-stars (Traynor and Garth Mallow) out with injuries.” The Spartans shifted to a fullcourt press but drew no closer than 51-44. Ken Schick led the Spartans with 17, Rich Michell added 15. The Spartans (coached by Lorne Aston) also included Dave Traynor, Paul Ferguson, Garth Mallow, Lyne Rogne, John Templeton, Rick Michell.

The Regina Campbell Tartans took the provincial title with a 66-44 thrashing of the previously unbeaten Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders. Asked what won it, Campbell coach Bill Petersmayer told the Regina Leader-Post “twelve players with a lot of pride,” along with tight man-to-man defence and a patient offence. “There was more than just a little incentive to win this,” having lost the high school football playoffs, Petersmayer added. Holy Cross coach Dave Hardy noted that ‘we weren’t hungry enough. Campbell was and we were two steps behind them all night. Aggressiveness is our forte and we just weren’t that way tonight.” Petersmayer noted that his team’s rebounding forced Holy Cross into a series of low percentage shots. Hardy said “our offence wasn’t as crisp as it usually was. We got a little behind, lost our composure and started forcing our shots. But I don’t think shooting was the key. We lost on rebounds and defence. I was really impressed with the way they crashed the boards.” Campbell took a 9-2 lead after four minutes and never looked back. They led 34-21 at the half. Holy Cross switched to a full-court press and Campbell shrugged it off or streaked for fastbreak buckets. Murray Douglas dominated the boards for Campbell while blocking several shots and scoring 12. Dave Werry and Dan Taylor each scored 13 to lead the Tartans. Murray Douglas added 12, Gene Thiessen 8, Kim Knechtel 8, Terry 4, Buttrey 2, Brewington 2, McLenahan 2 and Blackal 2. Rick Larsen led Holy Cross with 15. Gene Gerving added 8, Duane Litchtenwald 8, Kim Bihari 7, Ron Rochon 2 and Ed Kalthof 1. Campbell finished (28-8) on the season.
