        In the provincial finals, the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans nipped the Saskatoon Bedford Road Redmen 64-63 as Glen Bruce drilled a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer. Bruce finished with 8 points and 18 rebounds. Wes Britton hit his first six shots of the game for Sheldon-Williams and finished with 20 points, including 16 in the second half and 9-20 night from the floor. Pete Bailey added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Neil Jacoby scored 12, Jim Ferguson 6 and Jerry Borland 1. Bob Thompson led Bedford Road with 22 points, including 12 in the third quarter, and 14 rebounds. Les Bergen added 18, Jeff Park 11, Les Barkman 10 and Les Wright 2. “We knew he (Britton) was good but we didn’t think he was that good,” said Bedford Road coach Merv Houghton. Bedford Road took a 7-2 lead early. Sheldon Williams rallied to knot the score at 16 after one quarter. Bedford Road was up 34-31 at the half and 53-50 at the three-quarter mark. They led by five with 4:38 to play but Sheldon-Williams’ full-court press forced two quick turnovers and 6-0 run. Bedford Road rallied back ahead. Thompson blocked Britton’s shot with four seconds to go. Sheldon-Williams recovered the ball and called time-out. Bruce hit the winning field goal from the side of the key at the buzzer.
