Campion’s Hugh Phelan hit two free throws with two minutes to play to knot the score at 30. Norm Jarvis came off the bench to hit a jumper for Campion. But with 40 seconds to play, Central’s Gary Weisbrocht intercepted a pass and fed Gary Yeman for a runout. Jarvis then fouled Paul Rondeau. Central coach Ron Lancaster called a timeout, telling the Regina Leader-Post that “I told Rondeau there was no pressure – just go make shots. He looked at me and blinked.” And then promptly nailed both shots. Lancaster said “we went a lot further than everyone thought we would. In the provincial final, the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans defeated the Saskatoon Bedford Road Redmen 59-41 to nab their first title since 1964-65. Paul Jacoby led Sheldon-Williams with 31 points, including 16 in the first half and 5-5 from the line. Ken Traynor added 9, Doug Forsyth 8, Bob Vinson 4, Peter Bailey 3, Jack Miller 2, Bob Herbison and Glen Bruce 2, while Jim Ferguson, Neil Jacoby and Wes Britton were scoreless.  Sheldon-Williams fastbreaked Bedford Road at will. Bedford tried to slow the tempo but couldn’t do it. Sheldon-Williams opened with a 10-2 run and were ahead 25-15 at half and 38-26 at the three-quarter mark. Sheldon-Williams grabbed 81 rebounds, including 34 by forward Bob Vinson. Bedford Road, which shot poorly, was led by 6-7 centre Bob Thompson’s 20 points. Wayne Streiloff added 10, Sawchuk 4, Doug Lindsay 3 and Les Barkman 3, while Pearson, Wright, Attridge, Horbay, Bergen, Park and Dekok were scoreless.
