In the provincial final, the Regina Campion Maroons defeated the Saskatoon Bedford Road Redmen 48-43 as Bill Martin scored 15, center Danny Hill 10, Dave Pickett 8, Bill Fitzgerald 8, Emile Vertes 5 and Glen Weisgerber 2, while Hans Bauman, Zoltan Vertes and MacDougall were scoreless. Point guard Emile Vertes, “The Cat”, led Campion’s defence, doing a sterling job on Bedford Road’s point guard Kelly Bowers. Ron Brose led Bedford Road with 14. Lanny Penrod added 10, Garry Wilson 8, Kelly Bowers 7, Merv Komarnicki 2 and Milt Atwell 2, while Bill Soroski, Craig Meakin, Larry Giles, Terry Pearson, Henry Strelioff and Jim Dyck were scoreless. Campion shot .520 from the floor and 8-13 form the line. Bedford Road shot .430 and 9-21 from the line. The Maroons led 11-9 after one quarter. The Redmen led 27-17 at the half. The Maroons played without leading rebounder and playmaker Ray Manz, who was hospitalized by a mouth infection. Maroons guard Danny Hill told the Regina Leader-Post that “it was just one of those things. We didn’t shoot any different in the second half but the ball went in.”
