The Cowboys also included Gerry Nasserden, Ed Hildebrand, Steve Goluboff. …………………………………………………… In the north final, the Saskatoon Walter Murray Marauders defeated the Saskatoon Mount Royal Mustangs 48-45 in overtime. Walter Murray led 14-9 at the quarter and 27-19 at the half. Mount Royal roared back and took a 43-40 lead with 1:13 to play. But Ken English hit a free throw and Ian Smith tied it with 18 seconds to go. Fred Bader put Mount Royal ahead by two in overtime, but Archie Thompson hit two free throws a minute in and then a field goal with a minute to go. English added an insurance free throw. English scored 14, while Bruce scored 10. Len Peters led Mount Royal with 17. Bill Low added 14. The Mustangs (coach Terry Little, manager John Vaisanen) also included Fred Bader, Larry Larson, Peter Schoenfeld, Brian Friesen, Hal Pauliuk.

Billy Preston scored 8 to lead the Spartans. In the final, the Saskatoon Walter Murray Marauders stunned the heavily favored Regina Campbell Tartans 41-34. The Marauders, coached by Ken Sauer, who retired after the season, trailed 11-7 at the quarter and 20-19 at the half. But they led 29-27 at the three-quarter mark. “Our defensive play won the game for us,” Sauer told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. “I never took out any of the starting five because they were all playing so well defensively and I didn’t want to spoil them.” Ken English scored 13, Archie Thompson 8 and guard Julian Rachey 11. Tom Gosse paced the Tartans with 17. Jim Sekulich added 8. Tartan starters John Comrie, Ian Bailey, Tom Gosse and Don Blackburn all suffered sprained ankles in the week before the game. All played, but were hobbled. The Tartans led 11-7 after one quarter and 20-19 at the half. Marauders coach Ken Sauer told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “I’m glad I retired with a provincial winner. The boys all turned in their strongest efforts on my behalf.”
