In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Saskatoon St. Joseph Guardians dispatched the 4th-seeded Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders 70-58. The score was knotted at 24 at the half. Meliah Schwitzer paced the Guardians with 20. Emma Linsley led the Crusaders with 11. In the final, the top-seeded Regina Martin LeBoldus Golden Suns defeated the 2nd-seeded Saskatoon Centennial Chargers 56-49 to capture their second consecutive provincial crown. “It’s pretty special,” Golden Suns coach Garrett Kot told the Regina Leader-Post. “We never really talked about it pre-game, but that caps a perfect season for us. Every tournament victory — didn’t lose one. Mind you, we tried at the end of the fourth quarter there, but it’s very, very special for the girls — something they can look back on 10 or 20 years from now and realize that’s a pretty tough feat.” The Golden Suns led 17-10, 26-16 and 40-34 at the quarters. The Chargers trailed by 18 in the third quarter but rallied on a 12-0 run. Jade Belmore led the Golden Suns with 15. Kelsey Starchuk added 10 and Kamryn Maurer 10. Courtney Primeau paced the Chargers with 27. Kaitlin Jockims added 13. Chargers coach Trevor Mirtle said “honestly, the difference in the game was (the Golden Suns’) confidence level and aggressiveness. They just came at us, and that’s what they do. And we knew that and I give credit to them. It took us until the second half to find our mojo a little bit to get back into it. And then when we did, it was a five-point game with three minutes left. We just kept hanging around and hanging around. As long as you give yourself an opportunity down the stretch, that’s all that you can ask for.”
