She knew that this was possibly her last weekend of games and she played like it and she had an awesome weekend. … We lost, but it’s not because we played badly. Never in our camp are we going, yah, we’re in trouble here. We just keep going to tournaments, keep playing games, getting better.” Crusader Katriana Philipenko scored the game’s first 11 points. The Guardians didn’t hit their first field goal until they were trailing 32-5 with 2:37 left in the second quarter. The lead was 35-13 at half. “It seemed like there was a trash can on top of that rim in the first half,” Guardian head coach Tyler Sharp said. “We just couldn’t get anything to fall. Sometimes you’ve just got to tip your cap to them and say, wow, they did a really good job.”

It was awesome.” Anderson hit four treys in the final quarter. “I’m usually three points … five points,” Anderson said. “I’ve never had that big of a game. Katie Bastedo paced the Hounds with 25. Mary Anglo and Kaylee Derenisky each scored 16 to pace the Marauders. The Marauders (coached by Kristen Johnson, assisted by Tanessa Boutin) also included Alex Schmidt, Yusria Angelo, Madison Reynolds, Mary Asfaw, Bryn Lyon, Brooklyn Reynolds, Izzy Odegard, Kasia Wicijowski, Katie Wood, Jocelyn Cramer and Echo Desjarlais.

        The Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders edged the Regina Luther Lions 53-49 after leading 33-10 at the half. Kyla Shand led the Crusaders with 20. Maddie Tell led the Lions with 16. The Lions (coached by Janet Cook and Logan Harris) also included Angela Bongomin, Jaden Cook.

        The Saskatoon St. Joseph Guardians dispatched the Regina Campbell Tartans 63-57. The Tartans led 31-25 at the half. Lauryn Prokop led the Guardians with 22. Emily Dewey led the Tartans with 23. The Tartans also included Paige Jeannot.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders clipped the Saskatoon Walter Murray Marauders 58-46. Shayna Ilinsky led the Crusaders with 13. Emma Engen paced the Marauders with 10. “Our girls played with great intensity and composure,” Crusaders coach Jennifer Ferguson told the Prince Albert Daily Herald. “We set the pace of the game and played as a team from start to finish. We set a goal to play for a medal and we met it.” The Marauders led 14-9 after one quarter. The Crusaders led 29-27 at the half. The Marauders also included Sarah Wright and Catherine Mireau.

        In the semis, the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders whacked the Wilcox Athol Murray College of Notre Dame Hounds 68-51 after leading 37-18 at the half. Kyla Shand led the Crusaders with 19. Spencer Boldt led the Hounds with 21.

        In the other semi, the Saskatoon St. Joseph Guardians spanked the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders 67-52 after leading 29-23 at the half. Emma Johnson led the Guardians with 21. Aadyn Oleksyn led the Crusaders with 16.

        In the bronze medal match, the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders clipped the Wilcox Athol Murray College of Notre Dame Hounds 58-47. The Hounds (coached by Wayne Morrison, assisted by Jamie Boldt and Tracy Faith) included Spencer Boldt, Katie Bastedo, Breanna Aikens, Taylor Hannah and Paige Davies.

        In the final, the Saskatoon St. Joseph Guardians dispatched the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders 74-64 to capture the 21-year-old school’s first hoops title. The game was tied 40-40 before St. Joseph went on a 19-6 fourth-quarter run. Holy Cross appeared in its seventh consecutive 5A girls final. “It’s exciting for our school. It’s exciting for us,” Guardians forward Emma Johnson told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. “Everyone has put in a lot of time and we’ve been close a lot of years. It was nice to come out and pull it together and finally make this thing a reality. … I am really excited. I think we knew after the city final that we had something to prove at this tournament. … We beat them twice in league play. We knew that as long as we came out with a great effort, we’d be able to do what we wanted to do. You’ve got to give it to Holy Cross. They played an unbelievable game and made it really tough for us.” The Crusaders overcame a double-digit deficit and tied the game at 40-40 early in the fourth quarter, but the Guardians responded with a 19-6 run. Lauryn Prokop led the Guardians with 18. Francis Ojukwu added 18. Kyla Shand led the Crusaders with 22.
