That what caused them foul trouble in the first half. But they’re so experienced and so cool, they just decided to stay away from fouls in the second half. And Mary Lou Tourigny, I’ve seen her play some good games but that was one of the best games I’ve ever seen her play.” Tourigny said “I was really hyper early in the game. Our whole team was.         In the provincial semis, the Regina Marian Saints clipped the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders 55-43 after leading 26-17 at the half. Mary Lou Tourigny aced the Saints with 17. Jennifer Boso added 16. Andrea Karwacki paced the Crusaders with 10. Jennifer Boso told the Regina Leader-Post that “we do have more of an inside game. But we worked it outside tonight. I’m glad we took control at the beginning. It got a little rough at the end.” Holy Cross coach Vic Karwacki said “we would dribble into their press rather than pass out of it. And because of injuries, this is the first time we’ve had our entire team together since January 10th. So, we were a little nervous.”

        In the other semi, the Regina Dr. Martin LeBoldus Golden Suns edged the Saskatoon Evan Hardy Souls 53-51 as Eileen Benesh scored 20, Lisa Paluck 13 and Raquel Tchorzewski 7. Kathy Morrow led the Souls with 18. Reni Hall added 17. Eileen Benesh told the Regina Leader-Post that “the baseline was working so I just kept going for it. If I couldn’t get in, I went to Lisa (Paluck) or Wendy (Kaufman) or Raquel (Tchorzewski) and has to be the best junior, wow.” The Golden Suns led 26-17 at the half but trailed 37-32 with nine minutes to play when the Souls called off their press. The Suns promptly rallied. Souls coach Pat Wegner said that “we thought by taking off our press, we might get our offensive routine going.” Tchorzewski gave the Suns a 44-43 lead on a putback. Benesh promptly added a pair of field goals. Wegner said “we were hoping to isolate her (Benesh) points from outside, almost inviting her to shoot from out there. Even with two people on her and with hands in her face, her outside shots were still going in.”

        In the bronze medal match, the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders dusted the Saskatoon Evan Hardy Souls 77-64 as Ramona Moldenhauer scored 18, Erica Pasmeny 13 and Tracey Chomyn 12. Kathy Morrow led the Souls with 21. Kelly McPhee added 14 and Rhonda Bashnik 12. The Souls (coached by Pat Wegner) also included Colleen Venne, Wendy Hall, Reni Hall, Kathy Morrow, Jodie Habicht.

In the final, the Regina Marian Saints defeated the Regina Dr. Martin LeBoldus Golden Suns 48-36 after leading 22-21 at the half. Naomi Humbke led the Saints with 10. Mary-Lou Tourigny added 9 and Teresa Pontius 6. Eileen Benesh paced the Golden Suns with 42. Lisa Paluck added 6. The Suns tried a box-and-one on 6-0 Saints centre Mary-Lou Tourigny but Jennifer Boso responded by repeatedly attacking off the dribble. “We’ve practiced so many different areas in our offence that when (coach John MacDonald) says ‘switch’, we can switch,” Boso told the Regina Leader-Post. Teresa Pontius said “there’s always somebody open.” Mary-Lou Tourigny said that “they were like triple-teaming me. It gets a little frustrating.” Golden Suns coach Darlene Schmidt said “Lisa (Paluck) did quite a job on Tourigny. We concentrated completely on shutting down Tourigny. I don’t think any other team has done as well.”
