It was just a different look we weren’t expecting. And then we talked about some things in the second half and just our energy as a whole. And we really turned things around. … It’s a new team and a young team but a very mature team. I don’t think teams really expected us to be here with only two returning guys from last year’s squad.        In the final, the top-seeded Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders captured their third title in four campaigns by defeating the 2nd-seeded Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders 102-97 in overtime as Daniel Umejiego scored 27, Daniel Solarin 25, Lucian Tyson 20, Syn Tyson 8, Raphael Mutongolo 8, Luca Pek 6, Paul Peterson 6 and Jacob Codling 2, while Fefe Oluwatominiyi, Duncan Friesen, Treyon White and Christian Garcia were scoreless. Emerson MacCuaig paced Carleton with 31. Zane Litzenberger added 29, Clarence Ermine 27 and Mason Wilson 10, while Everett Moccasin-Bourke, Tucker Prodaehl, Josh Climenhaga, Colton Golding, Jacob Sawatzky, Caleb Klassen, Landon Stonestand and Draco Pamaran were scoreless. Holy Cross led 54-34 at the half and led by 16 in the fourth frame but Carlton’s Emerson MacCuaig and Zane Litzenberger caught fire to force overtime with the score knotted at 82. “I was very impressed with the composure and physicality of P.A.,” Crusaders coach Josh Rutten told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. Rutten added that it was “a game of runs, with each team having the momentum at different times.” The Crusaders led by nine in overtime but “the guys knew that it was time to apply some pressure and leave everything out on the floor,” Rutten said. Daniel Umejiego, Lucian Tyson and Daniel Solarin forced a raft of turnovers and swung the game by 14 points. “I was really proud of my team for the resilience that they showed in never giving up,” Rutten said. “I am incredibly proud of the late comeback and resiliency in finding a way to win. With that being said, I am always very critical of our team and things that we could have done differently. I spent most of the two-hour drive home thinking about our second half and all of the things that I could have done differently as a coach. I am so happy that our Grade 12s got to finish the year with a provincial win, and this experience is a fantastic learning opportunity for myself and younger players looking forward at next year.”
