Kinistino led 21-18 at the half. Jack earned her fourth provincial gold medal. “Four years in a row felt really good,” Jack said. “The coaches must be doing something right. Kinistino’s always been one to watch and we want to keep that going.” Kinistino nearly letting a 10-point lead slip away. “She just dominated the game for us,” said Kinistino head coach Bill Yeaman. “She’s a great player … I didn’t know how they were going to stop her and they weren’t able to. We struggled a little bit with scoring and I think that was why the game was close. Defensively, we did a good job to hold them to 42 – and they did a good job on us defensively.” Meath Park coach Kevin Tait said that “out of 29 school divisions in our province, for one to have five schools at Hoopla is pretty good.” Jack fouled out 22.3 seconds to play. Grade 10 rookie Emma Jones stepped up and sunk a free throw to give the Blues a 44-42 lead with 17.1 seconds left. Kinistino hung on. “I was very, very nervous,” Jones told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. “But everybody helped me a lot. It was the bright eyes of everybody saying, ‘You have to do this and you had to do it now.’ It’s amazing. Now I know what they (the veterans) are talking about. When she got that fifth foul, I was like, ‘Oh, Brittany Jack.’ Then I thought, ‘Oh well, it’s my time to do it for the team.” Jones scored only three points but none was bigger than the last one. Jocelyn Boyle added 5. “A Grade 10 kid comes in and makes a heck of a play, a high school memory she’ll never forget,” said co-coach Bill Yeaman. Sam Dearing led Meath Park with 12 points. Janice Trudel added 9 and had the last shot to either tie or possibly win the game at the buzzer. “We probably had our best offensive player taking that last shot,” said Mustangs coach Dave Seto. “She actually had an open look, but it just bounced out. That happens. They’re a great team and if we had to lose to someone, they’re the team we wanted to play. For an undersized team, we battled defensively and kept it close.” Jack has been with the Blues since Grade 9 and won her fourth gold in four years. Her only regret was being on the bench for the last one. “But this is an awesome feeling. Not too many girls get a shot (at four gold) and I’m grateful that I did. My team pulled through and I’m really happy.”
