In the other semi, the top-seeded Wynyard Bears defeated the 4th-seeded Clavet Cougars 55-50 as Tessa Jordan scored 31. Julie Thode led Clavet with 15. The Cougars played the season in memory of ex-teammate Tanya Thomas, who’d transferred to Saskatoon Aden Bowman and who had succumbed to cancer the previous June after a two-year battle with the disease. “This season is dedicated to a fallen classmate,” Cougars coach Ian Obrodovich told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. “It was something we had to deal with at the start of the season. Everyone completely agreed that it would be the right thing to do,” said Mackinley Darlington, a Grade 12 player on the team. “At the start of the year, we wanted to do something good because everyone was close to her. We wanted to pay tribute to her and we’re motivated by her.” Kristin Mann, another Grade 12 team member, says there are many reasons to be motivated. Tanya Thomas was stronger than anyone, Mann said with a smile. “She never found a reason to give up. She was always ready to give more. She would never quit.”
There is no evidence of a bronze medal match.
