The Crusaders were led by guard Andrew Babb, who scored 65 points in St. Brieux’s two regional games. “We were quite successful with full court pressure on the ball, making them use 10-15 seconds of the shot clock before they could get organized into their offense,” said Crusaders coach Gary Pachkowski.  “We were also successful at doubling the ball carrier on the defensive side of things. … We are confident in our game. If we play fast, push the ball, shoot well and have full court defensive pressure, we are a tough team to beat.  We also will really need to box out well as all three teams have a height advantage on us. Since we have been there before, I hope that experience also gives us a bit of an advantage.” The Bulldogs included Nick Bacon, Andreus de los Reyes and Dustin Ironquill.

The 5th-seeded Regina Harvest City Reapers dispatched the 4th-seeded Canora Cougars 89-81. Andrew Babb led the Crusaders with 19. “It was a very close game with quite a few lead changes,” Crusaders coach Gary Pachkowski told the Melfort Journal. “Ecole is a big, strong team and got a lot of points on second rebound chances. We had lots of chances to tie or take the lead in the fourth, but it was just one of those games where our shots did not fall.  My kids played their hearts out, and the loss wasn’t from a lack of effort. … It wasn’t our best game, that’s for sure.  We usually can score 90 points or so, but the ball just did not want to fall for us. It was just one of those games. … I took 16 players, many Grade 9 and 10s this year, so I feel it was a good learning experience for everyone as both our games were extremely close and down to the wire. This is the fourth year in a row we have been to Hoopla and have come home with a medal, so I am very proud to be the coach of these kids.”
