The 10th-seeded Canora Cougars stunned the 2nd-seeded Lashburn Lobos 87-64 as 6-4 post Nate Baron scored 31. The Lobos took an early 8-2 lead but the Cougars began using their superior size to dominate the boards and the paint, notching putback after putback. “We were matching them with effort, just not with size,” Lobos coach Scott Mitchell told Lloydministersource.com. “That was our Achilles’ heel. Once we got the rebounds and could push, that is when we started getting fouls on them and taking to the bucket. But when they set up inside, they were too big to go through.” Brendan Sauer paced the Lobos with 19. Zachary Tucker added 15. It was the Lobos first loss of the season. “It hurts,” said Mitchell. “I didn’t really know what to say after a loss. We had humble beginnings and we came a long way and they are going to be a great team again next year. We lost the big one.”

We had unbelievable fan support, and the gym was packed and so loud,” Crusaders coach Gary Pachkowski told the Melfort Journal. “We took an early lead, 31-8, but as the game progressed, we starting getting into foul trouble, and that let them bring the score back to be only down by 4.” But the Crusaders bench stepped up. “However, we were able to get all our starters back in during the fourth quarter, and started making some huge threes which had us pull away for the victory. … There are a lot of miles and classroom floor hotels in that victory, so yes; it always feels so awesome to win with such a dedicated, skilled group of kids.”
