We’re really trying to push the guys, give them a lot of big challenges, and they’ve stepped up. “I try to find the 3A, the 4A schools, and if there’s a 5A school in town that’s willing to play, I’m always up for the challenge. If nothing else, it makes you play better. You have to match up five ways against those guys. It makes me coach better and shows the boys how basketball can be played at a higher level.” Benneweis added that winning provincial titles creates a great atmosphere in our school. Come this time of year the school is green and gold. I think it motivates the guys. Definitely there’s the nervous energy, but there’s a lot of excitement.” Osler hung tight with the top-seeded Eagles early on, but things changed in a hurry in the third quarter. The Eagles built on their 36-26 half-time lead by outscoring the Lions 25-6 in third frame and never looked back. “I tried to push tempo,” said Benneweis. “I knew early if they stuck with us that as long as we push hard all the way that later in the game it would be to our advantage. We got that window of opportunity and took advantage of that.” Added Andrew Donauer: “When we found our second wind we just went. Things started dropping left right and centre.” Joel and Andrew Donauer, as well as Josiah Fenez and Curtis Vinish graduate having been a part of the past three championships. This year they led a cohesive squad that lost only three games all season. Andrew Donauer said “we drew confidence from the last two years. We have a quality program. We just want to outwork (opponents) every time we go out. It’s a real payoff at the end to have three in a row.”
