In the quarterfinal, the 5th-seeded Westisle Wolverines dumped the 4th-seeded Souris Spartans 73-65. The score was knotted at 37 at the half. Jacob Raynor led the Wolverines with 32. Mackenzie Brennon added 13 and Elon Wilkie 10. Ryan Acorn paced the Spartans with 21. Josh McIntosh added 18 and Randy Antle 8. The Spartans (coached by Kevin Jenkins) also included Luke Chaisson, Chandler MacAulay, Ben MacDonald, Jesse Outhouse, Jacob Outhouse, Riley Jamieson and Cole McMahon.
In the semis, the top-seeded Charlottetown Colonel Gray-1 Colonels blasted the 5th-seeded Westisle Wolverines 85-48. The Colonels led 29-11 after one quarter and 48-28 at the half. Matt Connolly paced the Colonels with 20, including 3-3 from beyond the arc. Alex Campbell added 16 and John Alex Vos 12. Jacob Raynor paced the Wolverines with 23 points and 8 boards. Mackenzie Brennan added 10, along with 5 boards, and Elon Wilkie 9. “We took the early lead in the first quarter and the bench came on and we still played on defence. It was a good game and a good team win,” Matt Connolly told the Charlottetown Guardian. “Coach kept us motivated. He always uses a few tricks to keep us playing defence.”
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders dispatched the 3rd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-1 Axemen 70-56. The Raiders broke to a 15-4 lead and were ahead 19-10 after one quarter and 34-30 at the half. But Adam Ryan ignited a decisive 14-2 run in the third quarter as the Raiders took command. Adam Ryan paced the Raiders with 24 points and 7 boards. Zack Wall added 18 and Parker Roche 12, along with 8 boards. Logan MacDougall paced the Axemen with 18. Cameron Paynter added 16 and Ethan Boyd 7, along with 8 boards. “We wanted to run a lot of zone and get out on transition. (Mission accomplished) I’d say,” Adam Ryan told the Charlottetown Guardian. “We came out with a lot of energy and the rotation guys, the young guys, stepped up and got it done.”
In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-1 Axemen blasted the 5th-seeded Westisle Wolverines 84-57 after leading 40-31 at the half. Logan MacDougall paced the Axemen with 28, including 5 treys. Cameron Paynter added 16 and Ethan Boyd 14, along with 7 boards. Jacob Raynor led the Wolverines with 23 points and 7 boards. Elon Wilkie added 13, Kyler Brennan 12, along with 12 boards and Mackenzie Brennan 12. The game was tied with 6:10 to play in the third period, but three treys, a hoop and an assist by MacDougall in the final two minutes gave the Axemen a double-digit lead with two minutes to play. The Wolverines also included Kyler Brennan; Logan Dawson; Morgan Caseley; Alex MacNaught; Derick Arsenault.
In the final, the top-seeded Charlottetown Colonel Gray-1 Colonels defeated the 2nd-seeded Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders 76-63 to repeat as champions. Jordan Reid paced the Colonels with 24, including 5 treys. John Alex Vos added 16, along with 8 boards, and Alex Campbell 15. The Raiders led 32-30 at the half. Adam Ryan paced the Raiders with 16. Ilan Shvartsman added 11 and Josh Bourque 10. The Colonels took command with a 15-2 run in the third quarter, ignited by a pair of treys by Jordan Reid. The Raiders rallied to with 67-63 with under a minute to play but Alex Campbell, Matt Connolly and Jordan Reid hit free throws to ice it for the Colonels. “People just got hot. I believe I had a couple of threes, Matt Connolly hit a shot from the top of the key and (John Alex) Vos was getting layups,” Jordan Reid told the Charlottetown Guardian. “We just came together and showed what Colonel Gray is – family. … It will definitely help me at the next level. I learned a lot, learned what kind of leader I am and what we’re capable of.”
