The Colonels led 14-9 after one quarter and 24-19 at the half as Helena Vos notched 4 treys. In the final, the top-seeded Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders captured their fifth consecutive title by dusting the 2nd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-1 Axettes 83-52. The Raiders led 19-13, 46-26 and 63-42 at the quarters as the Axettes had little in the way of a response to the aggressive attacks of Devon Lawlor. Lawlor, who won her third title, told the Charlottetown Guardian that “it’s really exciting. We all became friends through basketball, so it’s been really great to grow up with them. … We worked really hard this year. Our goal was to come out strong and push the ball up the court and I really think we did that.” Raiders coach Peter Lawlor said “we took some punches (during the season) but they really responded. Of all the teams I’ve coached over the years, and it’s been a lot of years, this team has probably improved the most, start to finish as a group, of any of the teams I’ve coached.” Lawlor said the difference proved the Raiders transition game. “In that second quarter, that’s what we were able to do. We got some stops, got some rebounds and then the girls really pushed the ball.” Axettes coach Garth Turtle said “I thought we played really hard and that’s all you can ask kids to do.” Devon Lawlor paced the Raiders with 20. Sydney Lawlor added 17, Amy Plaggenhoef 14 and Katie Vidito 8, while Taylor Mitton had 5 boards 2 blocks. Paige MacLean led the Axettes with 10. Lauren Lilly added 9, Alyssa Richard 8 and Jill Power 7.
