In the semis, Charlottetown Colonel Gray-1 Colonels waxed the Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 76-34 as Katie Moore scored 11, Kristen Walker 9 and Marie Younger 9. Amanda Wells led Elmsdale Westisle with 11. Santana Wedge added 9. Colonel Gray led 41-16 at the half as their full-court pressure yielded a host of dividends.
In the other semi, the Summerside Three Oaks-1 Axettes crushed the Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders 67-54 as Sarah McQuaid scored 22 and Jane McKillop 13. Sara Moore paced Rural with 25. Sarah Stewart added 11. Summerside Three Oaks Axemen led 33-26 at the half. The Axettes dominated the blocks.
In the bronze medal match, Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders defeated the Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 60-47 as Emily MacEachern scored 22 and Ashley McGuigan 18. Ashton Gallant led Elmsdale Westisle with 16. Santana Wedge added 12. Rural led 27-11 at the half.
In the final, the Charlottetown Colonel Gray-1 Colonels whipped Summerside Three Oaks Axettes 79-42 as tournament MVP Carly LaFave scored 24, Kirsten Walker 12 and Katie Moore 12. Jane McKillop led the Axettes with 20. Hannah Walker added 17. The Colonels broke to a 12-2 lead and extended the margin to 34-16 at the half. “They were more intense and in the first half they didn’t miss (baskets),” Axettes coach Forest Lilly told the Summerside Journal-Pioneer. “They played a 2-1-2 half-court trap and came at the ball carrier, and they put a lot of pressure on the boards.” Colonels coach Chris Annett said the school’s winning tradition “alone puts pressure on the girls. We are geared for this type of game (championship). We lost by just one point to the Quebec and Nova Scotia champions this season, and for these games we try to maximize our strengths and minimize our weaknesses.”
