In the quarterfinals, the 4th-seeded Montague Vikings nipped the 5th-seeded Souris Spartans 88-86 in overtime as Duff MacDonald scored 30, Jay Shaw 22, along with 12 boards, Boyd Moore 20 and Ryan Forrester 12. Drew MacInnis led the Spartans with 37. Nathan Conway added 21, Jon Gallant 10 and Dawson Burke 10. Souris led 45-41 at the half. Souris led 45-41 after the first half, which saw both teams scoring in spurts. There were several lead changes in the final five minutes as Spartan Nathan Conway and the Vikings’ Jay Shaw started to control both boards and hit crucial shots as the time wore down. Duff MacDonald scored four points in the last 30 seconds to give Montague a one-point lead, but Conway was fouled with two seconds to go and hit one of the two foul shots to leave the regulation score tied at 82. Drew MacInnis had four-points in overtime for Souris and MacDonald hit a key shot with 31 seconds left to give Montague the lead. Two steals in the last 12 seconds by Shaw gave the Vikings the close victory. The Spartans (coached by Peter McQuaid and Ron McIntosh) also included Brady Sanderson, Brandon O’Keefe, Jonathan Gallant, Johnathan McInnis, Caeman MacDonald, Drew MacInnis, Graham Leslie, Grant Cahill and Dawson Burke.
In the semis, the top-seeded Morell Marlins defeated the 4th-seeded Montague Vikings 68-67 as Dan Hendricken scored 16, Randy Affleck 16 and Kurtis Knockwood 12. Duff MacDonald paced the Vikings with 24. Ryan Forrester added 15 and Jay Shaw 10. Montague led 38-29 at the half.
In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines defeated the 2nd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-2 Axemen 77-67 as Ashton Sharpe scored 19, Sheldon MacFadyen 18 and Chris Buchanan 15. McKenzie Marchbank paced the Axemen with 25. Dexter Coughlin added 15 and Mike MacKinnon 10. The Axemen led 32-31 at the half.
In the bronze
medal match, the 2nd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-2 Axemen defeated
the 4th-seeded Montague Vikings 65-56 as Dexter Coughlin scored 14,
Mike MacKinnon 11, Jordan Murray 10, Judah Jacksaw 9 and McKenzie Marchbank 8.
Jay Shaw paced the Vikings with 34 points and 17 boards. The first quarter featured
lots of nervous energy and missed chances, ending with a 10-8 Three Oaks lead.
The Axemen used a balanced attack to build leads of 25-18 at halftime and 46-32
after three quarters. The Vikings also included Duff MacDonald.
In the final, the top-seeded Morell
Marlins defeated the 3rd-seeded Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 66-42
as Randy Affleck scored 24, including four treys and 20 in the first half.
Tournament MVP Dan Hendricken added 16, Will Jadis 9 and Stephen MacKinnon 8. Chris
Buchanan paced the Wolverines with 13. Quentin DesRoches added 8, Curtis Gaudet
7 and Sheldon MacFadgen 6. The Marlins led 38-16 at the half as they dominated the
boards at both ends and pushed the lead to 58-28 in the third quarter.
