We didn’t shoot well, but because we played as a team we came through. … I never worried . . . I have confidence in the girls. Hey, I knew it would be a close game but knew the girls would be okay if they remained focused. … Stacey (Coffin) played very well defensively. She’s played a lot for a Grade 10 kid and was up against a good player. Stacey complements our three players — Rebecca Gallant, Katrina Clow and Megan Sheridan with good defence. It’s really fun to be back where I played 25 years ago. I feel connected here.” Tournament MVP Katrina Clow said “I’m happy about the award but the gold medal is more important. We played hard when it counted and we didn’t give up when they pressed. We were a bit nervous playing in front of a big crowd . . . we’ve played better, but we played tough defence. Everyone worked hard all year and it paid off. We couldn’t have done it without our coach, Anna Stammberger.”
