In the quarterfinals, the 3rd-seeded Charlottetown Rural Raiders crushed the 6th-seeded Kensington Torchettes 55-30 as Kim Swan scored 24 and Jessica Davidson 10. Megan Deighan led the Torchettes with 10. Rural led 23-15 at the half but Kensington rallied to within a point six minutes into the second half before Swan hit a trey to reignite Rural’s offence. The Torchettes (coached by Ronda Bellefontaine) also included Julia Campbell, Courtney Cole, Erin McCarvill, Allison Riley, Lauren Sinclair.
The 4th-seeded Summerside Three Oaks Axettes dumped the 5th-seeded Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 49-39 as Nicolle Kelly scored 13, Rebecca Walker 11 and Kristen Turtle 10. Sara Lee Pitre led Elmsdale Westisle with 21. Martina Poirier added 7. Three Oaks led 29-20 at the half. The Wolverines (coached by Rick Peters) also included Ellen Barwise, Sarah Lee Pitre, Lisa Jones.
In the semis, the top-seeded Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels defeated the 4th-seeded Summerside Three Oaks Axettes 46-38 as Katherine Walters scored 18 and Jessica Richardson 10. The Colonels led 21-11 at the half but the Axettes rallied to within 32-31 with eight minutes to play before Colonel Gray responded with an 8-0 run. Nicole Kelly led Three Oaks with 10. Melissa Heer and Emily Waugh each added 7.
In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Charlottetown Rural Raiders upset the 2nd-seeded Hampshire Bluefield Bobcats 52-42. The Raiders rallied from a 20-point deficit to pull out the win. Lindsay Coade paced the Raiders with 13. Jessica Davidson added 11. Hampshire Bluefield led 26-10 at the half. Laura MacPherson led the Bobcats with 18. Katie Andrews added 10.
In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Hampshire Bluefield Bobcats whipped the 4th-seeded Summerside Three Oaks Axettes 52-32. The Axettes (coached by Larry Wright) included Nicolle Kelly, Melissa Heer, Heather Searle, Rebecca Walker.
In the final, the 3rd-seeded Charlottetown Rural Raiders defeated the top-seeded Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels 54-43. The Raiders prevailed with excellent team defence but missed 31 free throws. “How do you miss 31 foul shots?” wondered Rural coach Mike Lloyd. Colonel Gray rallied to tie the score at 31 with 8 minutes to play but Kim Swan nailed a trey to give the Raiders a lead they never relinquished. “Kim is our three-point shooter and we really don’t have anyone else who can hit from out there,” said Lloyd. “That shot gave us a lead we needed at the time.” The Raiders extended their lead to as many as 14 and then hit 5-8 from the line in the final two minutes to ice it. Lindsay Coade paced Rural with 19 boards, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Swan added 13, Jessica Davidson 11, Amanda Hood 11 and Sarah Adams 8. Katherine Walters led Colonel Gray with 12 points and 16 boards. Tamara MacDougall added 11 and Joanne Ghiz 7. Colonel Gray led 10-2 at the start but the Rural fought back to a 24-19 lead at the half.
